Age of Wonders: Planetfall support update

age of wonders planetfall support update for linux windows pc games

Age of Wonders: Planetfall just released on Windows PC, but we have the game Linux support update. Since Paradox Interactive and Triumph Studios announce the release. Available now on Steam, GOG and Humble Store.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is the first sci-fi entry into the series. Thanks the success story of the turn based strategy Age of Wonders games. Since the single and multiplayer adventure features tactical battles. Also detailed construction of a new empire. Which takes in the ruins of a ruined galactic empire.

Players lead one of six unique factions. And a cosmic age of darkness. All from the ruins of a galactic empire to change the future. Almost everything is possible. So from the militant Vanguard to the dinosaur riding Amazons. Or even cyborg zombies.
Since each faction has its own missions in Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Which the player can solve with intelligence. Along with military strength or diplomacy. Exploring ancient ruins to meet survivors. Searching the history of a vanquished civilization. Fighting, building, bargaining and technical advancement.
This are the basic requirements to survive in the single player campaign. With the random battlefields or the fight against friends.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall Release Trailer

The lack of Linux support this time around is and issue. Since Age of Wonder III was fully cross platform. The same is expected for this sci-fi entry.
Since there we only have a Windows PC release for Age of Wonders: Planetfall.
Using Steam Play on Linux issues the error, “Failed to install Paradox Launcher: exit status 1603”. But if you DO have Windows installed, there is a Workaround. Since this involves copying the install files for the launcher. Going from Windows to Linux. While changing the launch path to ensure it works.
However, checking ProtonDB, there are mixed results. Whether the Age of Wonders: Planetfall Workaround method was used or not. So I reached out for developer details.

Linux Support Update:

  • What game engine is Planetfall running on?
The engine is the Creator engine, developed by Triumph.

  • Is a Linux port of the game planned for post-launch?
We haven’t ruled out a possibility of a post-launch Linux port. But it’s not in the current development plans

This is the feedback for Age of Wonders: Planetfall so far. Not the worst news. But I’m also in contact with Triumph Studios. Which includes Paradox Interactive as well. Since there could be collaboration there for a Linux port. But so far those details remain to be seen, but I am hopeful.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is available on Steam, GOG and Humble Store. Priced at $49.99 for Windows PC. Linux support is still in question.
