Albion Online has an upcoming Lancelot update for Linux, Mac and Windows. This also brings with it a ton of exciting new features.
So this new Dev Talk, Game Director Robin Henkys discusses two features in detail. These are the Roaming Mobs and Luxury Goods.
Albion Online Roaming Mobs & Luxury Goods (Linux, Mac, Windows)
What are roaming mobs?
So with the Lancelot update. The NPC factions in Albion will become much more active in the open world. Which adds to the gameplay.
Instead of being confined only to camps. Their scouts, minions, and elites will now roam the games open world. So now these “roaming mobs” are designed to be defeated by solo players. Even small groups and those willing to brave the open world.
And if you find them, this will mean overall higher rewards. Also greater than those found in Expeditions. These mobs will vary in rarity and difficulty. So from basic scouts to powerful bosses. They offer huge amounts of fame and silver.
Roaming mobs will add new dimensions to Albion Online and the open world. In addition to providing new and more varied PvE opportunities. They will also lead to more 1v1 encounters. Since gatherers and “mob hunters” will cross paths. For group players, roaming mobs also offer a rewarding activity between fights. Or while waiting for friends to come online.
Which makes more sense, instead of hanging around one of the games villages. Players will now earn active rewards on their own.
What are luxury goods?
Luxury goods are special items drops by mobs. These consist of 18 different antiquities from Albion Online‘s past. Due to their historical value, they are highly sought after by collectors. While they cannot be put to use by players directly. Each of these treasures can be sold at a set price. While in a particular city’s marketplace.
For example, those classified as Ritual Items, can always be sold for a high price in Caerleon. So different item types will have association with different cities. Since each leads to a decentralised secondary economy for these goods.
Additionally, each category will contain common, rare. And some even very rare items. With values that increase accordingly.
First, by altering mob drops to include these items. Varying the rewards gain by killing mobs in a much more interesting way. Which is better than simply randomizing the quantities of Silver drops.
Second, the fact that luxury goods need to be transported to a target destination will do the following:
- open up new trade and transport opportunities for players willing to buy them at a lower price in a non-destination city and transport them to their destination
- add a new dimension to Albion’s economy, with the relative value of a luxury item in a given location determined (as always) by the collective activity of all players
- provide new PvP opportunities for those looking to kill and loot players transporting them
The games Lancelot update:
So no release date is available for the Lancelot update, yet. The games new features will release in “the coming weeks.” Which means changes across Linux, Mac and Windows.
