Innovative ‘crowd game’ controlled by audience noise levels
Rovio is the first games developer to bring crowd gaming to the masses with its new Angry Birds title.
Finnish group Uplause, which has experience of audience entertainment at around 200 events, created the technology for Rovio, which was then licenced back to them for use worldwide.
The technology works through a giant screen with the game played based on noise levels from the crowd.
The new social game will be introduced at the Singapore Formula 1 grand prix.
“Through social participation, our fans will get to interact with the Angry Birds in an entirely new way,” said Rovio CMO Peter Vesterbacka.
“We think this new form of gaming will give fans a great opportunity to form a strong emotional connection with the characters.”
The Finnish company says its big crowd social games have hit over 2.5 million people in around 200 events.
CEO Veli-Pekka claimed “Rovio is the first games developer to do this” and he is looking forward to working with Rovio to bring the experience to other events around the world.
“This partnership opens a tremendous opportunity for both companies to grow and create amazing experiences for biggest live events in the world,” he said.
This latest extension of the Angry Birds franchise comes after Rovio is rumoured to be planning on becoming an indie publisher, a claim the studio did not refute when approached by Develop.
