ARK Scorched Earth expansion pack community backlash over paid content

ark scorched earth expansion community backlash

Releasing an #expansion ARK Scorched Earth for $19.99 USD for a Steam #EarlyAccess game has made quite a few players displeased.

Despite being in Steam Early Access, Ark Survival Evolved has now received the first paid expansion ARK: Scorched Earth, but the fan backlash has not been kind to the game.

Steam reviews for the expansion are generally positive. However the reviews for ARK: Survival Evolved are the problem.

Having recently received so many negative reviews that the overall perspective has changed from Mostly Positive to Mostly Negative in a few days, since ARK Scorched Earth’s release. The most common complaint comes from players that have been with the game since the first days of launch. Players feel burn due to developer Wildcard spending time making paid content, when the main game is not even finished yet.

“Started off as shining example of how to do early access. Ended up a complete disaster after the developer went off on adventures of making Survival of the Fittest, console versions and paid expansion while still in early access!”

“No wonder the game is so behind schedule.”

Another player outlines the ability to tame dragons in Scorched Earth “pay to win”, due to the ability to bring them over to the main server. Seeing this feature is not available to the original game owners.

“They must have given up on developing this game, they used to do free content releases and updates under the tag of “Finishing the ♥♥♥♥ing game,” they instead opted for optional DLC and as of now 20$ paid DLC.” added another.

These ARK Scorched Earth reviews prompted feedback on other forums, which brought more notice to a Studio Wildcard developer to reply to a review on Discord. Where the player was called “too cheap to pony up $20”. That post has since been deleted, but the screenshot is available here.

The staff member involve has since apologized on Reddit.

“Was an OK game, Alphas Dinos started to ruin it but now they have the cheek to release DLC and charge more money for it instead of finishing the game that people have bought. I would stay away and wait to see how else they plan to squeeze you for money.” another player outlines on Steam

Whether or not Scorched Earth brings adventure, the new island with a desert setting, complete with new creatures and the usual item crafting. This is still the first paid content to be released for Ark: Survival Evolved.

What are your views of Ark? And how do you feel about the new paid content of Scorched Earth?
