BATTLETECH Beta support coming soon

battletech beta support coming soon for linux

BATTLETECH support coming soon with Beta support for Linux in the next few weeks. So although that is not a solid release date. Do note, this will not be a full release. Which is interesting, considering the game released back in April 2018.

Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes have an announce for BATTLETECH version 1.2. Which is here, but there is no native support yet for the first turn-based tactical MechWarrior game. You know the one that is over 20 years in the making.
Also made possible by the support of 55,000+ Kickstarter backers.

Linux Beta Support:

Linux update: The team is still actively working on our Linux release. We hit a snafu with playback of audio (as in, “There’s no sound in the game”) but we’ve gotten support from an external party and appear to be back on track. We expect the Linux version to be available in Beta within the next few weeks.

So the BATTLETECH version 1.2 comes with a number of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Along with some impressive new features. But this does not mean native support yet. I’m actually surprised Paradox has not released details about the audio issues for Linux earlier.

That being said, the Linux release will include the overhaul of MechWarrior special abilities to the Beta. So before issuing these as live. Paradox want to give interested players the opportunity to try these ability revisions. And share their thoughts. Releasing these new changes in a separate “public_preview” beta for dedicated testing.
Also this beta is identical to the live state of 1.2. Aside from the abilities revision. Where the developers will be reviewing beta feedback on these abilities in weeks following. While expecting to push this revision to live in the next big release, Update 1.3.

Please read BATTLETECH Lead Designer Kiva McGinn’s Dev Diary post describing the new abilities.

BATTLETECH Price and Availability:

BATTLETECH is available on Windows and Mac for the suggested retail price of $39.99 USD. But that Linux support is coming in the “next few weeks”. Available for purchase from Paradox PlazaSteamGOG and Humble Store.
