Broken Roads isometric RPG is a huge tease

broken roads isometric rpg is a huge tease for linux and windows pc

Broken Roads is upcoming isometric RPG for Windows PC, but is a tease for Linux. Thanks to Australian indie studio Drop Bear Bytes. Which does not have a Steam page yet. Mixing in the Wasteland and Mad Max game.

Broken Roads blends the established as well as all new role-playing elements. Combing them into a traditional isometric RPG. While players traveling through authentic Australian locations. All in a desolate future.

As almost expected, I’ve been in contact with Drop Bear Bytes for a while. And here’s what we do know so far. The studio is not quite able to commit to Linux just yet. But the Broken Roads development is using a rather familiar engine, Unity 3D. And since the games not due to release until 2021. This is definitely a tease. But also a title worth keeping an eye on.

Especially since Colin McComb has joins the team. Taking the post of Creative Lead for Broken Roads. With over 25 years with credits ranging from classics. Such as Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment. All the way up to recent work on Torment: Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2 & 3.

The game tells the story of a group of companions. As they make their way across Western Australia. While encountering new friends and overcoming terrible enemies. Uncovering a mystery behind the strange happenings in the Never Never.

Broken Roads comes with real-time exploration and turn-based combat. Also a beautifully illustrated with hand-drawn artwork throughout. With the goal of offering an experience of playing in concept art. Such as the 3D characters, VFX, and 2D environments. They all follow this painterly style. Which is rather unique.

The game also presents players with an original morality system. Hence the Moral Compass. This novel design sees dialogue options and questing decisions influence. All influenced by, a character’s philosophical leaning. So that the Broken Roads player decisions shift a character’s philosophical leaning. And also altering their future choices. As well as open up Moral Traits that can help or hinder.

Features:

  • All-new post-apocalyptic setting
  • Unique morality system influencing dialogue, quests and character development
  • Authentic Australian locations and environments
  • Blend of traditional and original RPG mechanics in Broken Roads

Broken Roads is scheduled for release in 2021. Drop Bear Bytes houses industry veterans and talented newcomers. With experience from CCP Games, Riot, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts and Torus Games. The environments and props are by Mighty Vertex. The art studio behind the isometric graphics in Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun series.
