Spring Update for Civilization VI hits Steam

spring update for civilization vi hits steam in linux gaming news

Civilization VI [official site] is back in the news. Hence offering Windows PC gamers a new update. Developers Firaxis just launched the strategy game’s Spring Update. Hence new changes and fixes that are not huge but help with the overall gaming experience.
Since Warmonger penalties are now reworked for Civilization VI. So your people no longer deal with a curse forever, aka the mark of Cain. The AI is also has a fix too. Yet the patch itself is a 1GB download. However the downside of the Spring Update, it is not available for Linux yet. Currently set as “coming soon for Linux and Mac”, not really epic gaming news. Which means, we wait…..

Here are details for warmonger penalties in Spring Update 2017:

    • When applying a warmonger diplomatic penalty for EITHER declaring war or capturing a city. Reduce that penalty if you are enemies with the target of that warmongering as follows:

•-20% warmongering if this is against a player you have casting aside
•-40% warmongering if this is against a player you are at war with
NOTE: This is not used in situations where you are fighting a Joint War against the target power or when Sumeria joins as ally in war (in both those cases the penalty is still zero).
EXAMPLE: Macedon is at war with Persia. If India goes to war with Persia sometime in the middle of this Macedonian/Persian War and captures a Persian city, Macedon will reduce its warmonger penalty against India by 40%.

    • Adjusted Warmonger penalties for City Population:

•When applying a warmonger diplomatic penalty for capturing a city. Will reduce that penalty if the city is smaller than the average city in the game as follows:
•If the city’s population after conquest is below the average population of all the cities in the game. Then reduce the warmonger penalty by the percentage that city’s population is below the average.
EXAMPLE: Persepolis is conquered and its population after conquest is 6. But the average size of a city in the game is 8. So this city is 2 / 8 = 25% below the size of the average city in the game. Therefore the warmonger penalty is reduced by 25%.

So the Spring Update changes are all well and good. However the news does not help much in the way of Linux gaming. Since the updates for Linux are expected to release later. Hence the original launch of Civilization VI, taking longer than expected.
Needless to say the release is quite stable and the game does run rather well. So a huge round of applause to Aspyr Media for their hard work.

A word from Aspyr:

“It’s definitely in development for Linux. We’re targeting 2-4 weeks after PC release.”

Make sure to check the patch notes for further details on upcoming balance tweaks. Things like buffing Harbours and nerfing Swordsmen. Plus the usual AI improvements, bug fixes and making this a solid patch.
