Civilization VI release date for announced from Aspyr Media

civilization vi release date for linux announced via aspyr media

So Civilization VI is coming to Linux thanks to #AspyrMedia. And the post on Steam outlining news on Monday lives up. We are now able #confirm that the games release will take place on February 9th.

Hence Aspyr Media released details via Twitter:

So the way the multiplayer works, Aspyr Media have outlined that the Linux version will work with the Mac version. While this is not too bad, I typically prefer to be able to link up Mac or Windows players. So the coming native release will be incompatible with Windows until later.

With the Linux release comes the deployment of cross-platform multiplayer with the Mac platform. Join the thousands of Mac players already expanding, exploring, exploiting and exterminating in the pursuit of global conquest!

Please note that the games cross-platform multiplayer is enabled between Mac and Linux platforms only. Cross-platform with Windows will be enabled at a later date.

Due to the delay, they will also be releasing the Linux version along with a discount on all versions of the game.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world: cities now physically expand across the map, active research in technology and culture unlocks new potential, and com peting leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits as you race for one of five ways to achieve victory in the game.

To express our appreciation for our wonderful Linux players, you can pick up the base game on Steam for the special limited time launch price of $47.99.

Expand your empire further with the Civilization VI Digital Deluxe which includes the full base game, the 25th Anniversary Digital Soundtrack. Hence accessing four post-launch DLC packs that will add new maps, scenarios, civilizations and leaders for a bundled discount of $59.99.
