CodeWeavers Unveils Wine 1.4-based CrossOver XI

CodeWeavers has today unveiled CrossOver XI as their latest Wine-based commercial software to run Windows programs under Linux and Mac OS X systems. Besides being based upon Wine 1.4, there’s several other fundamental differences with this new product.

Wine 1.4 hasn’t been officially announced yet (it’s currently at 1.4-rc6 state), but it should come soon. Meanwhile, CodeWeavers, one of the leading sponsors of the Wine project, was quick to put out CrossOver XI. Back in January I wrote that CrossOver 11.0 would be here soon and to be powered by Wine 1.4.

With CrossOver XI, CodeWeavers has greatly simplified their product portfolio… Now CrossOver XI is everything. There is no longer a separate CrossOver (Office) or CrossOver Games nor are there Standard vs. Professional differences. This one CrossOver product will now handle your gaming, office, and other Windows application needs.

CrossOver XI is compatible with Microsoft Office 2010 among other recent Windows software titles. CrossOver XI is available for Linux and Mac OS X systems.

Additional information on the CrossOver XI launch today can be found from this forum announcement by Jon Parshall, the COO at CodeWeavers. CrossOver XI Linux is available at a cost of $49.95 USD from CodeWeavers.com, which includes six months of updates and support.
