The Darkside Detective releases finally (Linux)

the darkside detective releases finally linux mac windows games steam

One of the latest releases in gaming, #TheDarksideDetective is getting great reviews. Since the #games fully available on Linux, Mac and Windows. While giving Thimbleweed Park some point and click competition. Available right now on #Steam, GOG and Humble Store.

So The Darkside Detective is coined as a classic point and click adventure game. Along with a distinct sense of humour. Development is taking place in Unity 3D as commonly found on Steam. So players can now join Detective McQueen and Officer Dooley as they investigate 6 bizarre cases. From the occult to the supernatural. Anything is possible in this micro adventure game.

Where cultists crawl, where demons dwell, where the occult… occults? Therefore, you’ll find Detective Francis McQueen. The sole member of the criminally underfunded Darkside Division. Whike evil darkens the doorsteps of Twin Lakes City. Hell, even when it just loiters around shop fronts or hangs out in shady alleyways. Detective Francis McQueen is there. Ready to investigate the cases that nobody else will. He is The Darkside Detective.

Linux issue and black screen:

There seems to be an issue with some Linux configurations. Especially when prime synchronization is in use. Essentially, a 0x0 resolution is being auto detected for fullscreen mode and being used by the game startup.

It’s not a perfect solution but a workaround (until we patch it) is to navigate to:

~/.config/unity3d/Spooky Doorway/The Darkside Detective/

and edit the prefs file to be like this:

<pref name=”Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode” type=”int”>0</pref>
<pref name=”Screenmanager Resolution Height” type=”int”>1080</pref>
<pref name=”Screenmanager Resolution Width” type=”int”>1920</pref>

This will set fullscreen mode to false and force a windowed resolution of 1920×1080.
If it doesn’t help, it would be awesome if you could forward on your Player.log and prefs files from the above directory to [email protected]

So there seems to be Unity 3D graphics issues here and there. Yet this workaround will allow the game to be playable on Linux. Editing the Prefs file for Unity is a common task in Linux. While most of the Unity-based games have been rather solid lately.

The Darkside Detective Features:

  • 6 cases, each more spooky than the last
  • Music from Ben Prunty, the audiomancer behind gems such as FTL and Gravity Ghost
  • At least three jokes
  • Cutting edge, high definition pixels
  • One free curse-removal, up to and including mid-level witch hexes

So right now, The Darkside Detective is available priced at $9.99 USD with a 23% discount until August 4th. While the release also has full support for Linux, Mac and Windows on Steam, GOG and Humble Store.
