Dead Cells is a roguelite, metroidvania action-platformer on Windows, but coming to Linux and Mac. While now we have some solid news about the coming Linux release.
So Dead Cells just released an announcement about console support. The games producer Steve Filby from developer Motion Twin outlines the details. Since the studio is handling all of the console porting process. Also describing a simultaneous PC/console launch as a “logistical challenge”. Since the producer points out, “I think we’re on the right track.”
As for Linux and Mac. Motion Twin previously announced plans to bring the game to both Mac and Linux. Filby says they “should be coming out over the summer.”
Since this does re-confirm the coming Linux port and time frame. There is no release date specified, yet. Which also means we will likely see a full release when a Linux build becomes available. Blowing right past the release window stated via the Early Access page:
“We will need at least 8 months to implement everything that we already have planned. Taking into account community feedback and requested features, we could go up to 12 months or even more.
May/June: Linux and Mac builds available. “
Dead Cells works very running Steam via PlayOnLinux and Wine Staging 2.15. Gameplay interconnects levels for progressive unlocking. So as you play and gain access to the island. This also provides you with a real incentive to explore your surroundings. Adding in a degree of evolution for your character. This means permanent weapon upgrades. Making gameplay very addictive.
