The independent developer from Hamburg just announced the details. Since this is the official successor EVERSPACE 2 at gamescom: Opening Night Live. In contrast to the roguelike concept of its predecessor. EVERSPACE 2 is an open-world space shooter. Which also comes with classic RPG elements. Including a persistent player progression. As well as a much larger number of player ships. And likewise, plus far more enhanced storytelling.
EVERSPACE 2 will release on Steam Early Access first. Likewise, this currently planned for the second half of 2020. With the full version for Linux and Windows PC at the end of 2021. Including support for PlayStation® 4 and Xbox One.

So this is indeed good news. However, this is for the full release in 2021. Since the game is due to release on Early Access in 2020. Which should also mean solid Proton support. Since Unreal Engine 4 is being used for development. As a result, not a bad workaround.
EVERSPACE 2 will clearly outperform its predecessor. Doing so in terms of both audio visual quality and scope. As a result of the naturally higher development budget. The first trailer, celebrating its premiere at GamesCom: Opening Night Live. and is available on the ROCKFISH Games YouTube channel. As a result of in-game video material. Space game enthusiasts can get the first taste of quality. Along with gameplay and open-world feeling at the ROCKFISH stand. Where a polished prototype is already playable. Be we are rather interested in the gameplay, with commentary. Check it out below.

“With its innovative concept of rapid space battles. Along with roguelike elements and exciting storytelling. EVERSPACE was able to excite over a million PC and console players. But many of our fans and space game enthusiasts were still longing for an open-world space shooter. Including classic RPG elements in the EVERSPACE universe,” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “With EVERSPACE 2, we are making a big leap towards an open-world space shooter. But will still remain true to our DNA. Offering exactly what our fans love. A beautiful fantastic sci-fi world. Paired with uncompromising space action. That gets down to business right away”.
ROCKFISH Games plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on September 9, 2019. While seeking a funding goal of €450,000 for EVERSPACE 2. As with the successful campaign of its predecessor in 2015. The EVERSPACE community will also be involved in the development process. Doing so as early as possible.
On the other hand, the financial independence of the studio. This will further secure and ensure full creative control. And certainly during production. And if the campaign is successful. Even increase the scope of the game by activating stretch goals.
After the world premiere at gamescom. ROCKFISH Games will present EVERSPACE 2 at Pax West in Seattle from August 29 to September 2. And also at TwitchCon in San Diego from September 27 to 29. So that fans get the opportunity to try the demo live on location. Which is also why we posted the gameplay video above. You know, just in case you are going to one of these events.
