Exoplanet: First Contact, a #storydriven action RPG now on Kickstarter for Linux, SteamOS, Mac and Windows PC. The gameplay mixing two genres, describing itself as a #space #Western, “we mixed the best of TESIII: Morrowind, Gothic, Fallout with the Firefly TV-series and the Dune Universe. These are the main ingredients defining the look and feel of Exoplanet.”

While this may seem like a strategy heavy RPG affair, gameplay focuses on shooter-style action just as much as your character traits. When not shooting or leveling skills, the game will offer a crafting system built around antigravium, “the new gold.”

“There’s a constant struggle for existence on K’Tharsis as desert raiders, runaway slaves and the original natives are always thirsty for blood. They fight the normal people and aliens who live safely behind the walls of the settlements and the last corporate enclaves. There is only one guarantee, and it’s that not everyone is going to survive.”

Development for Exoplanet: First Contact is well underway using the game’s proprietary Sahara engine, while “OpenGL also allows the team to port the game to MacOS, SteamOS and Linux in the future.” Alersteam already has a working alpha build, and the title has been greenlit via Steam Greenlight. Therefore, funds being raised will be used to complete the rest of the game’s development.

Exoplanet: First Contact is seeking a modest $45,000 in funding with 1,263 backers and having raised $36,832. Along with a number of stretch goals in place, starting with more background options for your character at the start of the game. While the highest stretch goal is set at $80,000, which will bring random encounters to the game.

Exoplanet: First Contact has 15 days remaining until the Kickstarter campaign ends on September 12th. Which seems quite likely the game will be successfully funded.
