Forged Battalion is a real-time strategy coming to Linux and Windows in 2018 via Steam. The games being published by top international games label Team17. The release will be available on Early Access January, 16th 2018. There are still some details you need to know about the dynamic new take on the genre.
Since Command & Conquer veterans Petroglyph are the creators. The games engine creation is done in-house according the email reply.
When to expect a Linux release?
“The game engine is the one Petroglyph has been perfecting in-house for years especially designed for the RTS genre.
At launch the game will also run on Linux, yes.”
So how long will it be before we see the games full launch? Roughly 6 months. Which you can clearly see outlined via the official page on Steam.
And since we always do our homework. A recent update seems uncertain if we will we see a native Linux port or not.
Update:
“Unfortunately, after a quick investigation, it looks like the game will not be available for Linux nor OSX. So it’s not confirmed at this time.
I will double check during the Early Access, what is the plan for this.”
In Forged Battalion players build and customise their own unique faction. Fighting in a variety of skirmishes. So this is both solo and in multiplayer battles. Since you can also create, customise and develop the blueprints of your faction.
So means having to create ever-evolving factories and units. While using resources gained from each battle. Unlocking new options through the tech tree. Allowing the choice of archetype. As well as the array of armour and locomotors. Also weapons and special abilities. Such as stealth and regeneration to make each player’s faction one of a kind.

Forged Battalion Early Access Content:
- Campaign missions comprising the first act of a multi-act storyline
- Skirmish maps supporting up to eight players
- Multiple Skirmish game modes including HQ Destruction and Annihilation
- Dedicated servers to support multiplayer
- Five customisable archetypes of vehicles (infantry, light vehicle, heavy vehicle, air and turrets)
- Resource management of tech tree points earned in tactical battles

So Early Access for Forged Battalion will run for six months starting January 16th, 2018. Regular content drops via a roadmap on the Steam forum Windows, followed by Linux support at full launch.
