Freedom Planet 2 announced a sequel coming to Linux, Mac and Windows PC

Freedom Planet which has an very positive community review, presents itself as a #Sonic-like #platformer and similar to Shovel Knight. A title that has become a cult hit for gamers, and now a sequel has just been announced that aims to expand it’s own limitations.

Independent developer Galaxy Trail has announced Freedom Planet 2:

“The original Freedom Planet was modeled as a tribute to Sega Genesis platform games. We’ve learned what works and what doesn’t, what’s fun and what’s frustrating, what we should expand on and what we can afford to lose. With all of this in mind, we feel that we are ready to bid farewell to nostalgia and create a sequel that will define Freedom Planet’s identity as a franchise,” says developer Stephen DiDuro.

The developer will follow a similar release schedule as the first game, launching on Linux, Mac and Windows PC, followed by Nintendo platforms or more “depending on resources.”

Most of the voice cast and characters from the original game are returning to the sequel.

Lilac, Carol, and Milla will all be playable in this next instalment and retain their signature abilities.

  • Lilac: Whip enemies with her hair or dart like a comet with her Dragon Boost.
  • Carol: Climb up walls or ride on her gravity-defying motorcycle.
  • Milla: Summon and throw energy blocks or use shields to deflect enemy attacks.

The above trailer definitely gives more insight as to what you can expect in the new game.

No release date was confirmed, but Galaxy Trail did mention a planned beta for sometime in 2017. And since the first Freedom Planet was Kickstarted, the newly expanded development team have no plans for another Kickstarter. So this is will be a fully self-funded project. Kudos to Galaxy Trail.
