Hades roguelike dungeon crawler supports Proton Linux gaming with Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to developer Supergiant Games. Which now has a full release version 1.0 available on Steam. Plus some good news.
Hades is a god like roguelike dungeon crawler. One that also combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles. Including the fast paced action of Bastion. Along with the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor. While using the character-driven storytelling of Pyre. And most noteworthy, all of these titles are available for Linux gaming. So what happened to Hades?
So according the Steam comments, back in August 2019, there was hope. Since that point, and working our way into 2020, this view has changed. Stating, “I wanted to let you know that we don’t have plans right now for a native Linux build of Hades.” Where the developer also goes to expand upon the Proton explanation, as the only form of support. The same for the developer explanation. Admitting their failure and potentially misleading the community. Rightly so, seeing the community depends on developers to continue releasing native build.
Therefore, where do we go from here regarding Linux gaming? Well it looks like Proton will be our option. BUT… the studio also reached out via email stating:
We have been trying and will continue to try to make sure Hades works well with Proton.
Since this may not be the reply we all hope for. Supergiant Games “will continue to try” to make sure Proton support works. But does offer a workaround. Again, the community is already used to seeing cross platform builds from Supergiant. But once again, this is where the small market share of Linux gaming impacts native support.
