If you have not heard, the big news around the Linux gaming community is thatHalf-Life 1 is now in the CDR database. A few people already managed to get it working, which is a pleasure to see. Personally, I remember Half-Life 1 from way back. How my brother would come visit and commandeer my PC, just to be able to play the game for a period of 3-4 hours.
Since that time, I managed to acquire the full series, Half-Life: Blue Shift and Half-Life: Opposing Force.
So now that it looks like Valve is bringing the Linux build of Half-Life (currently in Beta?. There is a good chance a class game will be rekindled. Oh the joys of Linux. Even more impressive if Half-Life 1 was ported to portable devices, like the
Also, Counter-Strike 1.6 will be making it’s Linux debut. Again, showing up in the CDR database. The classic from way back in 2000 is currently in Beta and still a popular amongst the gaming community.
It would be rather interesting to see Counter Strike competitions played from a series Linux boxes.
Oh, how I have longed to see the magic of gaming brought to the platform.
