A new moon phase starts today for Myst-style #adventure fans, as indie French #developer #FrançoisRoussel’s Haven Moon has quietly arisen on Linux, Mac and Windows PC.
Haven Moon was inspired both by Cyan’s popular series and by the works of Jules Verne. The game takes players to the moon of Seleos via teleport, orbiting the planet Menra. Here a note is received from Ektor Turren, claimed to be the “only survivor of a cataclysmic event that destroyed his world.” For reasons unknown, Ektor’s note explains that he wants to leave his life’s riches to you. Exploring the moon’s islands, search to discover the treasure and take it back home, but also determine who Ektor Turren was and what happened to this world.

The trailer Haven Moon show off some of the fantastic landscapes and machinery in very accurate detail. What is not shown is that although the game is rendered in real-time 3D, Roussel designed the gameplay used entirely with a mouse. The player journey across Seleos to reveal a “calm and lonely place where you hear the sounds of the sea, the wind and the beautiful music.” Encountering a variety of puzzles that are fully integrated with the story and promise to be “not too hard nor too easy, just like the length of the adventure is made to be not too long nor too short. Everything is balanced to provide a light relaxing and peaceful experience, to spend a pleasant time in an imaginary world.”

- 20 YEARS IN THE MAKING
It took me more than 20 years to create this game. From the first time I played Myst sometime between 1994 -1995, when I was a teenager, recreating the same experience has become an obsession. During all these years, I have tried many times to build my own Myst-like game, but it’s only 3 years ago that everything coincided to make Haven Moon possible. This project represents not only 3 years of real hard work, but also a huge part of my life. The journey leading to the release of this game was incredible.
Begin the moon-based treasure hunting, Haven Moon is now available on Steam for Linux, Mac and Windows PC.
