gets blocked by Valve incompatibility on Steam Greenlight gets blocked on steam greenlight with incompatibility

A follow-up on our recent #story about Itch, the indie game store application trying to get votes on Steam Greenlight. Which is not going to happen.

After receiving a message from Valve. Since the creators report that their #application is not applicable on Steam Greenlight. “This item is incompatible with Greenlight,” reads the header at the top of Itch’s Greenlight page. shared a private message from Valve. Sent through a representative outlining that Steam is not available to handle that type of non-game software.

Here how gets blocked in this message sent by Valve. As a result of their posting on Twitter by one of the Itch creator’s:

Before posting your game

Before you post your game to Steam Greenlight, you must agree to the following:

  • Have a functioning build of the core mechanics in your game that can be demonstrated in a video
  • Own the rights to sell the game you are posting, or you have specific authorization to represent the developer
  • You agree to the terms and conditions of the Steam Subscriber Agreement

Additionally, you agree not post any item to Greenlight that contains the following:

  • Someone else’s game, unless you have specific authorization to do so
  • Porn, inappropriate or offensive content, warez or leaked content
  • Cheating, hacking, game exploits
  • Threats of violence or harassment, even as a joke
  • Games using copyright material such as assets or intellectual property without permission from the owner
  • Soliciting, begging, auctioning, selling, advertising, referrals racism, discrimination

There is a variety of software available on Steam. Hence some which does not necessarily fall into any of those categories. So the Valve reasoning could be a challenge. Mind you, expecting Valve to give the go-ahead to an application for another game store? Even though Uplay is been bundled with Ubisoft’s games on Steam.
