Liberte top-down roguelike game offers hope for Linux and Mac with Windows PC. All thanks to Poland-based development studio Superstatic. Which is currenlty available on Steam Early Access with 80% Very Positive reviews.
Liberte is a story-driven, top-down roguelike set in an alternate history. Sort of a Lovecraftian version of the French Revolution. Since Superstatic prides itself on creating an enticing, shades of gray world. One that is also full of colorful and engaging characters. While providing a unique blend of fast action and deck builder games.
Liberte‘s core gameplay revolves around a unique blend of fast-paced combat and deck builder mechanics. Also taking inspiration by classics like Slay the Spire. Each time players venture into the game world, they start out with no abilities or bonuses. With every conquered challenge, they draw a card from their personal decks. By playing cards, they gain skills and talents. All due to work to create powerful combos. As a result, Liberte launches with over 100 unique cards. All for Players to collect and assemble into powerful decks.
That’s the overview, but let’s talk Linux.
If releases on other operating systems happen (linux / mac) this will be after 1.0.
According the Steam forum post, Linux is coming, as is Mac. Of course, even as a Unity 3D, managing more than one platform is tiresome. But based on the post, this is not a confirmation, but a chance to add Liberte to your Wishlist. Maybe add a positive comment to the thread. It’s your call.
But due note, Proton support does work. Although Liberte takes a moment to launch, it does run on Proton, quite well. Just be patient with the loading screens. I had a black screen for a minute, then hit the spacebar, and voila. Oh, and it’s good.
