Lightspark For Open Flash Inches Forward

The open source alternative to flash moving

steadily.

While Adobe has abandoned Linux Flash Player support, the open-source Lightspark Flash Player alternative continues to inch forward.

The latest Lightspark update was made this week, which now puts it at version 0.5. Changes for Lightspark 0.5.7 include memory leak fixes, improvements to the bitmap data draw, support for bitmap data copy pixels, support for soft masking, and support for memory usage profiling. There’s also some work that was done to further implement fully-accelerated Stage3D support, but it’s still in early development.

Additional details and download links for this latest Lightspark Flash update are available from this blog posting by Alessandro Pignotti, the project’s lead developer.
