Astroneer will see a Linux build soon

astroneer will see a linux build soon according to comment games

Astroneer will see a Linux build soon according to the games developer. Also a small announcement in the Steam Discussions. Since we do know about the coming release. The likelihood of seeing a Linux build in Early Access. Well, that just seems unlikely. While updates and patches are available almost daily.

Even from playing the game on Windows. Gameplay is smooth and the drop-in co-op works very well. Developer System Era Softworks are working their magic in Unreal Engine 4. Which is impressive to see a developer making timely changes. Since this is available right after release.

Linux support update on January 9th, 2017:

System Era Softworks gives issues details. Further explaining Linux support for Astroneer .

“Sorry for the miscommunication. That moderator shouldn’t have said, “worked on”. It’s definitely on our task list. But it isn’t something under development at the moment.
Right now, our highest priority is to fix some of our major performance issues. After those are all taken care of. I think we’ll be able to pivot. And be able to properly support other platforms.”

So clearly there is no release date. The developers are working on performance. Doing everything they can to keep gameplay smooth. Since performance issues can be an issue. At least for some Unreal Engine 4 titles.
