Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare still coming

freeman: guerrilla warfare still coming to linux

Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare is still coming to Linux according to a recent reply. The single-player pc game which features a unique combination of tactical first-person shooter and strategy game. Currently only available for Windows on Early Access. We reached out to developer KK Game Studio for details.

Players assume the role of a commander and raise money in Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare. While building an army, engaging the enemies in field combat. Since you can attack hostile territories and defend currently held ones. Then eventually dominate the world.

While this is all well and good, this the first sandbox FPS and grand strategy hybrid game. One also set to make a Linux debut, as some point.

A Linux release is coming:

“Our game will be released soon but we can’t confirm the date yet. We are planning to support Linux but most likely after the release.”

So yes, Linux support is coming to Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare. But there is still no release date. The “released soon” does coincide with the Early Access explanation on Steam. With the statement, “We are planning to remain in Early Access until the end of 2018.”

What does this mean for Linux? It looks like Linux support will not happen until sometime in 2019. Likely early in the year, depending on the games launch. And if all of the features will be available. Which seems to be somewhat ongoing, according to the roadmap.
For those eager to know, the game engine is Unity 3D. So hopefully the port will be straight forward. Since Proton support is somewhat of a contender here. If you don’t mind the lack of text rendering in Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare..

If you don’t know Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare, here is how gameplay works. The games divided into two portions: the overworld map and the first-person shooter. In the strategy portion, the player visits locations, trades for money, upgrades equipment and accepts missions. Then engage enemies on the field or lays siege to towns. All in a full out singleplayer experience.
