Good Old Games will not be supporting Linux anytime soon

Looks like Good Old Games is going to be sticking to Windows and Mac. The folks over at Gaming On Linux recently contacted the online retailer – known for selling a host of great titles from gaming’s yesteryear – to find out if Linux support would ever be on the cards. Turns out, it won’t: GOG’s PR Head Picty Szczesniak responded.

Good Old Games will not be supporting Linux anytime soon

The reason, according to Szczesniak, is tied to the number of Linux distros currently on the market as it is GOG’s business model, which requires the retailer to update every title in its library every time a supported operating system issues a major release (GOG offers a refund in the event that a game doesn’t work on a user’s computer). What’s more, unlike Valve, GOG would want to support three separate Linux distros – each with its own update schedule.

In short, the way Linux is designed means we won’t be seeing support anytime soon.
