RimWorld 1.0 strategy release October 17th

rimworld 1.0 strategy release october 17th for linux mac windows

RimWorld is a sci-fi strategy colony sim driven that has a full release coming to Linux, Mac and Windows. Taking inspiration from Dwarf Fortress, Firefly, and Dune. Also holding a 90% Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam with version 1.0 coming on Wednesday, October 17th.

So after a solid five and a half years of development. Ludeon Studios are closing this chapter of RimWorld. Which is impressive with all the mods available on Workshop for an Early Access game. But there are also details below from the Steam post.

RimWorld 1.0 release:

If you’re playing an unmodded game, just keep playing. Version 1.0 will be compatible with un-modded save games from Beta 19 and Beta 18.

If you’re playing a modded game, you should follow these two steps now:

  • In Steam Library, right-click on RimWorld, select Properties, go to the Betas tab and select the “beta19” beta.
  • Back up your mod files.
    • Copy all the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\294100
    • Paste them all in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods

We are recommending modders don’t update in-place to prevent the above problem. But can’t guarantee everyone will get the message.

1.0 is mostly the same as Beta 19, with a lot of bugfixes. So the only significant new feature is a new food restriction system. This allows you to determine what your colonists and prisoners are allowed to eat.

RimWorld Trailer (Linux, Mac and Windows)

RimWorld is not a competitive strategy game, but as a story generator. So gameplay is not about winning or losing. It’s about the drama, tragedy and comedy that takes place in your colony.

The game also creates events like pirate raids, trader arrivals and storms. But these events aren’t random. Since RimWorld uses an AI Storyteller (taking after the AI Director from Left 4 Dead). This analyses your situation and also decides what event will make the best story.

So RimWorld strategy is available now on Steam and Humble Store, priced at $29.99 USD. Version 1.0 is coming to Linux, Mac and Windows next Wednesday, October 17th.
