Rust survival games full release hits Steam

rust survival games full release hits steam for linux mac windows

Rust gets a full release after four years on Linux, Mac and Windows. The Unity 3D games available via Steam and Humble Store. Now officially out of Early Access.

So the multiplayer survival adventure game released on Early Access back in December 2013.

Rust’s open world is harsh. So the environment is not kind. Which means players face bears and wolves. Which also chase and kill you. There is fall damage when jumping from a height, which can kill you. The same goes for facing exposure to radiation for an extended period of time.

So more obvious things like starving will kill you. Being or getting too cold will kill you. Also other players can find you and kill you as well. Looting all your gear.

Thankfully, you can kill others and take their stuff too. Mind you it might be more beneficial to make friends. Helping each other survive, using the game’s building tools to create a safe haven.

That that being said, developer Facepunch Studios is not vouching the game as complete. “Don’t think of this as us claiming that the game is done. Think of this as us saying that if Early Access didn’t exist we’d have released the game on Steam by now,” Facepunch said in a statement.

So why shed the “Early Access” scene. “Part of leaving Early Access is making the development more stable,” Facepunch explains. “That means that not rushing in features and fixes that end up breaking something else. For that reason we’re going to be transitioning to monthly updates.”

So this means two versions of Rust now. A “main branch” and a “staging branch”. The “staging branch” will feature daily updates to the game. While the “main branch” will be updated less regularly. Which has a Linux vibe to it, don’t you think?
