Sigtrap Games announces Sublevel Zero for Linux and Mac in Steam update

Sublevel Zero is now available on Linux and Mac! thanks to Sigtrap Games. Originally #announced in a #Steam update a couple of days ago, now the team issued release notes regarding the #port.

Sublevel Zero is a first-person roguelike six-degree-of-freedom shooter set in a universe where reality is falling apart. Entire worlds have been destroyed by tears in space, and soon there will be nothing. As other clans fight over the scraps, yours delves into the ruins in search of knowledge to save humankind.

Fix for Sublevel Zero unable to launch on 64-bit Linux:

Through a recent Steam community post by Stephen for 64-bit FMOD/Black Screen Issue, entering the following “Launch Option” will allow the game to start.

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=”/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH” %command%

For some reason, Linux Game News had an issue launching Sublevel Zero on Linux Mint 17.1 64-bit. Having been in close contact with SIGTRAP, hoping to find a solution. While every other Unity game works perfectly fine, except for Sublevel Zero and Satellite Reign, where both games were unable to start.

We are not sure if this is a Unity issue or having something to do with the recent Nvidia 352.63 driver?
But a huge thank you to Luke at SIGTRAP for the link –and Stephen for the fix. 🙂

Linux Release Notes:

  • Some AMD cards and drivers (particularly, in our experience, the proprietary drivers) crash when using antialiasing in Unity. If you experience this, try to run the game with “-screen-quality noaa” minus the quotes. If this doesn’t work, we recommend trying the open drivers.
  • Some users may have issues with switching resolutions. As far as we can tell this is also a Unity-wide issue.
  • Volumetric lighting is bugged on most cards/drivers. It’s turned off by default in the Linux version but you can still try it from the Video menu if you like. You’re likely to get white flashes and/or strange black triangles appearing. We’re looking into solving this.
  • Mice will tend to be less responsive. We recommend increasing sensitivity in the control options for now.
We’re actively working to fix or work around all of the above!

System Requirements:

  • OS: Ubuntu 14.04
  • Processor: 2.5 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce GT 520/Radeon HD 3850 and above)
  • Hard Drive: 800 MB available space

VR Beta

Sigtrap will be launching the Oculus Rift beta on Monday, November 23rd. For those who own a DK2, who will soon be able to fully immerse themselves in the glowing, low-poly, 6DoF world of Sublevel Zero.

A few caveats – it is explicitly a beta! There are issues with it, we can’t guarantee it’ll run perfectly all the time, and there are a lot of features we plan to add. Minimum specs are of course higher than the 2D version of the game – we aim to hit Oculus’ recommended minimum spec. The VR build will be Windows-only, as the Oculus runtime no longer supports other platforms.
