unexplored linux and mac test build debuts on steam beside windows pc

Unexplored is the roguelite game now debuts a test build for Linux and Mac, alongside Windows PC. Thanks to game porter Ethan Lee and developer Ludomotion. If you down own the game, check it out on Steam.

Unexplored is the roguelite that feels like a roguelike. Also an usable yet challenging action rpg. With a Steam review rating of 92% Very Positive. Likewise, praised for its fantastic level generator. Due to the real-time combat and a surprising amount of content and depth. Plus the free dlc which adds even more variety.
So go forth and explore dangerous dungeons. Solve mysterious puzzles and engage hundreds of foes. Both big and small, in intense melee combat. And according to Ethan Lee, “this build should be totally solid.” You can also check out the full statement on Steam. And likewise, the game seems to work quite well for me. While the new Unexplored 2 sequel is developed in Unity 3D. So hopefully we won’t have to wait two years for support.

At Unexplored core, the theory is very simple to explain. Usually, programs creating levels typically think in straight lines. Which makes sense. Since the player needs to get from A to B. So naturally, a human level designer does not think in straight lines. Intentionally or not, they design levels thinking in circles. And also in loops. While adding a shortcut back to the main path just after a key. Likewise, adding a secondary path to the same goal. Maybe a different type of challenge, those kind of touches.

And that’s the simple but far reaching and fundamental change. Computer generated levels in the near future: cyclic structures instead of just branching paths. One of the first games to fully embrace this theory is Unexplored.

Being the brainchild of game researcher and developer Joris Dormans. Unexplored provides some great examples of cyclic level generation.

Features:

  • Easy to Play, Easy to Die
  • Fantastic Generated Dungeons (using brand new tech)
  • Real Emergent Gameplay with many Tactical Options
  • Intense, Real-time, Dual Wielding Melee Combat
  • Stealth Mechanics (dungeon crawling like a real rogue…)
  • Over 50 dangerous bosses
  • Challenging, generated puzzles
  • Adaptive, original soundtrack

Unexplored roguelite dungeon crawler released back in 2017. Priced at $9.99 USD and debuts on Steam for Windows PC. But the test build for Linux runs well. Test it out for yourself. And if you know any Mac users, well they have support now too.
