yonder: the cloud catcher chronicles could see linux support in gaming news

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles [official site] certainly seems to be making gaming news. While the game looks like Legend of Zelda with a #hero roaming the land to save it from evil. Yet there is #nocombat.
So gameplay is similar to Stardew Valley. Where you save the world by helping people with your talents. Things like farming, fishing, crafting and such. Developer Prideful Sloth will release Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles on July 18th. While we are not quite sure what it is, the trailer is interesting.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles – Release Date:

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles takes place on an island where our hero is shipwrecked. Hence the world is full of biomes, a day/night cycle and seasons. Prideful Sloth outlines that an “evil murk” is causing problems.

“The hero of Yonder will explore the island, uncovering its secrets and the mysteries within them self as they embarks on a journey of self-discovery, while saving Gemea and its people. On the quest to become the island’s champion, he or she will join forces with natives and Sprites, ethereal creatures whom are the only thing capable of dispersing the murk.”

“The towns of Gemea are filled with kind-hearted residents who have faced many difficulties since the arrival of the murk. By contributing to the island through talents like farming, crafting, cooking, fishing and brewing, relationships can be built with the locals, who offer everything from resources to a new farm as rewards.”

We reached out to Prideful Sloth in hopes of a Linux release. Well, here’s what they had to say about native gaming with a very honest answer.

“Post-launch we are happy to evaluate next platforms to support. Yes, Linux will be on the evaluation list.
For a Linux version the major things we need to consider are costs. As for the software, some of the 3rd party API’s we use are pay per platform. But we’d need to investigate costs and time to understand if we could get a version out without losing money (break even).
The two coders on our team came from the Batman Arkham series. So they are very use to abusing engines for all the are worth.”

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is launching to Steam on July 18th. And yes, Prideful Sloth is issuing “a full release only.” So we’ll have more news the closer we get to launch.
