Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous game is Proton only on Linux, yet offers Mac and Windows PC builds. According to details from developer Owlcat Games. Currently available across Steam, GOG, and Humble Store.

Owlcat Games and META Publishing announced further details. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has surpassed 250,000 copies sold. Doing so across Windows PC alone. All during its first week of sales. As well as seeing more than double the number of concurrent players during its first weekend. Even more so compared to the Kingmaker launch. But it’s not just all exciting numbers. Since game support is available for both Mac and Windows PC. But it seems that a Linux build will not take place.

Reaching out to Owlcat Games email, hoping for more objective reasoning, this is the result.

Unfortunately Linux port for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is not planned.

Okay, so the Kickstarter page clearly outlines Linux support, stating:

…..and support for OS X and Linux!

Outlining this statement and a link in a reply email, Owlcat replied with:

Linux was supported on our previous game, Pathfinder: Kingmaker. For the sequel, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, only Windows and Mac are supported.

Not offering any reasoning behind the choice, it’s an interesting reply. Even more so if you are amongst the few that supported the crowdfunding campaign back in February 2020. However, doing more research, the pre-order FAQ page also has an update, at the very bottom.

We express sincere gratitude to our Mac/Linux community for supporting our previous game, Pathfinder: Kingmaker. MacOS version will be available on release, 2nd of September. Unfortunately, it is clear now that we don’t have enough resources to bring Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to Linux in the foreseen future.

According to the Steam Discussion post that followed, the answer is also a clear “no”.

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough resources to bring Wrath of the Righteous to Linux in the foreseeable future. The answer is therefore “no”

So it looks like the Linux players will have to reply on Proton for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. And as with every video game launch, there are still issues to solve. Owlcat is working around the clock to resolve these for current players. While trying to offer a truly friction free experience. With 3 patches already released and more coming every week. The team isn’t slowing down now that the game is live. But Owlcat does owe the Linux community, at least offer proper Proton support.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is available Steam, GOG, and Humble Store. Priced at $49.99 USD. Supporting Mac and Windows PC directly, but Proton only for Linux users.
