So, there’s a new update, Proton 8.0 that you might want to know about. You know, if attune to playing games on your PC. But there’s one important detail you need to know: your Linux PC needs a GPU that supports Vulkan 1.3. As previously stated, in order to use Proton 8.0. If you don’t have that, you won’t be able to use the update. Check NVIDIA and AMD.

Assuming you have the right GPU, here’s what you can expect from Proton 8.0. There are many games that weren’t playable before that are playable now. These include titles like Forspoken, Samurai Maiden, Dead Space (2023), and more. There are also some other games now playable on Linux. Like Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, and Atelier Meruru.

But that’s not all. Proton 8.0 also fixes a lot of issues with other games. For example, it fixes a problem where the launcher for Final Fantasy XIV Online would always show a scrollbar, even when it wasn’t necessary. It also fixes a problem with A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem where the on-screen keyboard would show up when you started the game on Steam Deck.

There are also a bunch of other fixes for things like crashes, rendering issues, and keyboard input problems for various games. Proton 8.0 also includes some upgrades for things like multi-touch Linux support. As well as force feedback compatibility for BeamNG and Forza Horizon 5.

Likewise, Proton 8.0 includes some updates to a few things that it uses in order to work. These include updates to Wine, dxvk, and vkd3d-proton. These updates support Proton operating with more games.

So, in short, eager to add more games to play on Linux, Proton 8.0 might be something you want to check out. Again, assuming your GPU supports Vulkan 1.3 (Check NVIDIA and AMD.).
