Toxic Games geometric puzzles mix Minecraft with the Portal games. Q.U.B.E. 2 is a first-person puzzle sequel to the original Q.U.B.E. games success. Yet coming with a bigger storyline and increasingly difficult puzzles.
So the original Q.U.B.E. came out in 2012. Followed by Linux and Ubuntu support more than a year later. While still a very clever puzzle game. And now five years later, Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming to Linux, Ubuntu, Mac and Windows. Along with aspects of the original experience with a beautiful new 3D environment. Alas, the benefits of Unreal Engine 4 and cross-platform support.
While now Q.U.B.E. 2 has an even greater level of polish in the environment. Completely absolutely gorgeous while set in a massive bright laboratory type of building. So players familiar with the Portal games will feel right at home. Since we have to manipulate blue, green and red blocks. Using them to solve puzzles throughout the world by antagonist Amelia Cross. Hence the British archeologist who awoke in and is trying to escape from this place. Yet blocks pop against stark white and black rooms. So this makes the entire game resonate with light and color.
Q.U.B.E. 2 Official Teaser Trailer:
The gameplay has an initial learning curve, but very fun and addicting. So the player has to learn how to master each puzzle and use that skill in each subsequent puzzle. Seeing each puzzle is more different and tricky to solve. Each block has a different function. So playing a red square on the proper “block-building” space and it creates a long rectangle. While the green tool creates a solid block that can fall or fly when pushed by a fan. Yet the blue square is a launch pad, capable of flinging the protagonist and blocks. Or rather, a jump pad.
For many players the puzzles involve placing blocks on pressure plates to open doorways. Or revealing staircases with the ominous feeling of a lab adding a layer of mystery to the entire game.
So Toxic Games keep Q.U.B.E. 2 to three basic elements – red, green and blue blocks. Yet the puzzle possibilities seem endless.
Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming to Linux, Ubuntu, Mac and Windows in early 2018. There is no official release date or even a Steam page yet. So stay tuned.
