Independent developer Toxic Games just released gameplay of Q.U.B.E. 2. Since this shows off the playable demo at events including Gamescom, PAX West and EGX. So footage is a work in progress, showing off an early section of the game. Introducing the player to the functions of each coloured cube.
Consequently in Q.U.B.E. 2, as opposed to the prequel, the player now has the power to decide on cube color. Which means you can now choose which colored cubes to use in the sequel’s beautifully and varied environments.
Linux and Ubuntu release:
“We’re using Unreal Engine 4 but unfortunately, we have no plans for a Linux port on initial release.
These ports may come later but at the moment, we don’t have any plans.”
Q.U.B.E. 2 early gameplay footage:
So you can clearly see by the footage above. Gameplay starts off simple to teach the player the mechanics. Yet the puzzles become a bit more inventive as the game progresses. While the dynamics of of the environment and the lighting looks really impressive. Although having the main characters hands out in front of you all the time. That seems a bit pointless. Since people naturally jump and use their arms for balance. Either way, this is going to make my list of “must play” games of 2018. Hopefully Toxic Games see the light and announce a Linux and Ubuntu release to follow.
Toxic Games’ debut title, Q.U.B.E., was released back in late 2011. Hence the release of Q.U.B.E.: Director’s Cut which was released on PC in 2014, Linux and Ubuntu in 2015. This featured a completely new story, voice acting, an all-new original soundtrack. As well as a special time trial mode. And since Toxic Games are currently working on the sequel to their award-winning first-person puzzler, Q.U.B.E. 2. We are eager to see more content.
Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming to Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and early 2018. Hopefully followed by Linux and Ubuntu after that. Q.U.B.E. 2 puts players in the shoes of British archaeologist, Amelia Cross. Setting on a beautiful yet mysterious alien planet. With the help of fellow survivor, Emma, Amelia must face the challenges of the Q.U.B.E.. Hoping to finding a way back home. Q.U.B.E. 2 retains the shifting, environmental puzzles of the original but wraps the action around Amelia’s own intimate story and her quest for survival.
