Road Rebel Where Backers Can Become Game Developers on Kickstarter

What a ridiculously cool idea.  I mean a driving game where you can design your own maps and armed combat cars. Let alone play along to heavy heavy music by Rob Zombie, Motörhead, and Pussy Riot. What!?

UPDATE: Check out the great review from MarkeeDragon:

Road Rebel is the real battle of the bands — a multiplayer car combat game with badass vehicles custom designed for real rock legends. Rob Zombie, Motorhead, Pussy Riot, and more, each has their own car loaded with an arsenal of band-inspired pyrotechnic weapons. Blast their music tracks while you blast your friends online in epic rock-themed battle arenas, competing in the ultimate destruction derby.

Get the game on Windows or Linux for only $15 if you are one of our first 1,000 supporters!

What else sets Road Rebel apart from the competition? Nearly everything you see in the game is affected by the music you hear. The new Road Rebel will use procedural generation techniques to drives blur effects, weather, rate of weapons fire, timing of missile to hit targets, even terrain warping and time distortion. This creates a unique, musically immersive, cinematic experience — a psychedelic heavy metal rock opera on wheels.

How will that work? Check out this video with Matt “Trip” Maker, senior Monstrous engineer, discussing how Road Rebel will utilize the Soniverse engine to create amazing music-driven effects:

Drive badass combat cars fueled with music by rock n’ roll hellraisers. Smash through walls and blow up your friends! Shoot flamethrowers and machine guns! Play with friends locally or battle them across the network! Then pop the hood on the game and make it your own!

With your help, we can make this happen. Would a typical nanny game publisher let us run a live Crowd Development effort, bringing in gamers as decision makers and designers? Would they let us release all the source to the game — while we are building it? And let us include uncensored music from bands like Pussy Riot?  In short, hell no.  And that’s why you rock, Kickstarters.

First, let us tell you about the game.

Road Rebel is a high-octane, edge-of-your-seat game with tricked-out muscle cars blasting quadraphonic 8-tracks of rock ‘n roll legends. Each legend — Rob Zombie, Motörhead, Pussy Riot, and more we will announce soon — has their own car, and it’s YOU behind the wheel. You unleash a unique arsenal of band-inspired weapons upon your competition, as you thrash to music tracks unlocked for each band in their cars.

Each driver competes in a multi-tiered tournament that demands stellar skillz to handle careening combat cars loaded with pyrotechnic weapons. You and your friends master towering jumps, perform death-defying stunts, launch car-mounted missiles, and blast each other with machine guns.

Behind the driver’s seat of your very own Road Rebel vehicle, you plunge into exotic racing complexes. You can see all the explosive action around you via AI-powered drone cameras. Rob Zombie, Motorhead, Pussy Riot, and more, blast an ear-bleeding soundtrack as you use their cars to fire up a feast of destruction.

But that’s not all! In the world of Road Rebel, the exciting and sexy all-female sport of roller derby has evolved to motorized glorious mayhem. And when the TXRD, a world-class collection of female powerhouses who fear nothing and love to rock, heard about Road Rebel, they traded their quad-skates for 4 wheels. No one was prepared for the epic carnage they would unleash! You can select your crew from among real and badass women of TXRD. Roller Soviet Crusha drives your car to the sounds of Pussy Riot! Greta Ground-N-Pound grinds gears in Rob Zombie’s customizable ride!

Jump on Monstrous’ online servers and battle your way around the planet as you face off against other drivers in a globally ranked ladder competition. Play in story mode and challenge each of the drivers in the Road Rebel universe in a bracket tournament that will explore their interwoven backstories. Or create your own levels and content to share and play with your friends.

We originally built Road Rebel as an indie coin-op game. But it’s too cool to be locked up in a box and just fed quarters. Our team of seasoned game developers will reboot Road Rebel and make it the combat car game of your dreams — throbbing with rock and roll and available first on PC and via stretch goals on all your favorite game platforms.
