Serious Sam 3: BFE expansion pack to launch this month

One of the sleeper hits of last year – Serious Sam III: BFE – is getting a new expansion pack. According to DevolverDigital, the new expansion pack, titled Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile, will be released on October 16.

Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile follows the protagonist, whose name if you haven’t already guessed is Sam, to the Temple of Isis on an island called Philae where a monstrous temple guardian is said to lie in wait. The events of the expansion pack are set during the events of Serious Sam 3: BFE. Sam and his team will have to battle through three new campaign missions against hordes of enemies, who are all under the control of Mental.

Here are some of the main features of Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile, as per the official website:

  • Three new massive missions set against a mysterious island, treacherous canyons, and ancient temples
  • Battle against the powerful Aludran Reptiloid for the first time in Serious Sam 3 and face-off against an all-new gargantuan final boss.
  • More laser rifles, more sniper rifle, new battle axes
  • New challenging Steam achievements

Back in July, it was revealed that the developers of the game, Croteam, are working on getting Serious Sam 3: BFE working on Linux. This came shortly after Valve’s announcement of porting Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 to Linux. “We’re in the process of integrating Steamworks and achievements and the whole shebang, but we can’t get the little fucker of a penguin to stand still,” said publisher Devolver Digital’s chief financial officer Fork Parker in the announcement.

This is good news for all those people who have wanted to get rid of the Windows partition on their hard drive but can’t because of the lack of games on Linux. The number of games available on Linux is about to swell considerably due to Valve working on getting Steam on the Ubuntu distribution of Linux – an operating system previously mostly used by hackers and developers.

Recently, Valve announced that the public beta for Steam on Linux with 1,000 participants will be starting in October. The game that the beta testers will be getting will most likely be Left 4 Dead 2. This was the game that Valve had started testing on Linux to begin the porting process of the Source Engine over to Linux. As this is a beta test for the service, those new to Linux are recommended to wait for the final official release of Steam, as Valve will probably have more features on the Linux version, along with the fact that the service will be more stable.

Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile will be available on Steam, Get Games, and other digital retailers for $9.99 (around Rs 515).
