Kickstarter-funded RPG Shadowrun Returns is going to be a little late. Originally slated for a June launch, it’s been pushed back to July 25 on Mac and PC, Harebrained Games has announced, with the Linux version to follow a little later.
There is good news, though, as the delay gives the developer enough time to ensure the RPG ships with a very important feature – a suite of editing tools. I bet Neverwinter Nights fans are already rubbing their hands in anticipation, as are those of us old enough to remember tabletop Shadowrun sessions.
The decision to make the full story campaign completely editable, enabling player stories and weird and wonderful creations, was inspired by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, apparently.
“Trent empowered his fans to re-mix his music any way they wished. With Shadowrun Returns we are doing the same thing; players can start from what we have created and build on it, revise it, or use it as a starting point for completely new stories,” designer Jordan Weisman explained.
