Skater XL new skateboarding game on Steam

skater xl new skateboarding game on steam windows linux

Skater XL is a new skateboarding game on Steam Early Access for Windows, but about Linux. Well we reached out Easy Day Studios, an independent developer of extreme sports games. Who replied with with details and what is expected with the Early Access release.

Easy Day Studios just released the new skateboarding game, Skater XL. Originally I emailed the developers back in the beginning of December, no reply. Since the games now available on Steam Early Access, I hit them up again for details on platform support.

So let me start off by saying this, Skater XL is “built using the Unity engine.” Naturally Linux support would be expected, but this is an Early Access release. Quite often game developers keep support focused to ONE platform. Which seems to be the case here, “still have a lot of things they’re working on, as the full release is nearly a year out. By getting the ‘feel’ of the game right and involving the fans/skater community are a priority.”

This email gives off some aspect of hope, since the dev’s are “starting to explore the options.” Which means, given the positive feedback from the skateboarding community. Plus the overall reviews on Steam, which are “Very Positive” with a solid 80%. We could see support as more positive feedback continues to come in. But Skater XL literally just dropped into Steam Early Access, MAKE SURE TO WISHLIST!!!

Part of the reason for the solid Steam reviews has to do with board control and freedom of expression. The team is working closely with the skateboarding community to capture the feel and experience of skateboarding. While making it accessible for anyone with a passion for skateboarding culture and/or game genre.

Skater XL Steam Early Access Trailer (Windows, later Linux)

Skater XL has a design focus making gameplay the smoothest, most responsive ever felt in a skateboarding game. With new ground-breaking and intuitive controls. Skateboarding in a video game has never felt more authentic, fluid, and responsive. So players can style tricks any way they want. While making every trick and line their own.
Also, Skater XL builds upon the strong foundations of previous key titles. Moving the genre a giant leap forward towards completely expressive play.

The Early Access includes one initial character, the iconic real-world skate spot, The West Los Angeles Courthouse. As well as video tutorials. Which is part of the reason why Linux players will also have interest.
Future features will include video editing, additional skaters with character customization. As well as additional skate spots inspired by real-world west coast locations. Including online multi-play and possibly DLC or modded user-generated content. The full version is slated for release late in 2019. While following additional development and feedback from players and the skate community.

“It’s very important for us to engage with the community moving forward,” said Dain Hedgpeth, director and co-founder of Easy Day Studios. “Careful consideration, interpretation and prioritization of feedback is what will help us take the developed core of the game and expand it into a thriving online culture and pass-time that is fun and accessible for (non-gaming) skaters, gamers, and fans of the culture; respecting both the skate gaming and core skateboarding communities.”

Skater XL bring a new skateboarding experience to Steam Early Access. Priced at $19.99 USD and only available on Windows, but Linux support is in the shadows but not in the shade. MAKE SURE TO WISHLIST!
