Soulblight is a dark, top-down roguelike we introduced via Greenlight. Also set to make a debut on Linux, Ubuntu, Mac and Windows. Since the games design is set to lure you across the thin line between good and evil. Embracing your flaws to survive a journey through an unforgiving Sanctuary. Gluttony, Lust, Cannibalism – how far are you willing to go?
My Next Games decided to delay the Kickstarter campaign. Doing so in order to spend more time polishing it. Since then the developers are working hard. And also, this time they are mentioning anything until 100% confident in their pitch. And now, since they are, the time has come to finally announce it. Soulblight Kickstarter campaign will go live on October 17th and as explained on Steam.
My Next Games and publisher Playway are issuing a demo as an additional Kickstarter reward. So everyone who pledges will get the demo key just after the end of the campaign (Windows). Therefore if you decide to become a backer you will be able to try out Soulblight. No word yet if the Demo will be available for Linux, Ubuntu, Mac and Windows.
Soulblight design follows the literal meaning of RPG. So, instead of focusing on XP grinding. The developers are designing and introducing a unique Taint System.
While travelling through the shattered reality of the Temple. Gamers will receive personality traits based on their choices. These will later become the main source of their strength.
Therefore, to harness these traits, players will have to act accordingly. Becoming an alcoholic, for example, will mean that the gamer will be rewarded for getting drunk. But at the same time, from that point on being sober might prove unbearable.
SOULBLIGHT’S MAIN FEATURES:
- A unique Taint System designed to encourage role playing.
- Tons of weapons, armor, and utility items.
- Dynamic and tactical combat build around stamina management and distance control.
- Optional stealth approach that complements fighting.
- Randomly generated, visually breathtaking levels.
- High difficulty level emphasized by permadeath mechanics.
- Gameplay-driven narrative.
Also, we should mention. The Kickstarter delay is for a “more literal approach to RPG” pitch. Which up to now was a bit too abstract to get across. So the team found a new way of explaining the games concept. Which came to during PAX West. While the team were chatting with all the people visiting. Having then focusing on a wrong thing in their pitch. Instead of talking about game’s mechanics we should be emphasizing what we’re actually trying to say with it.
The Kickstarter for the Soulblight is going live on October 17th. Which will including support for Linux, Ubuntu, Mac and Windows. With a Demo coming available at the end of the campaign. So we will update details on this post as they are available.
