So in September we revealed the announcement for Sunless Skies. A 2D, #topdown, story-led #sequel for Linux, Mac and Windows PC, Sunless Sea. Hence the game is filled with exploration, corruption and jeopardy. So Failbetter Games launched their Kickstarter with huge success.
Hence the crowdfunding campaign for the sequel indie hit #RPG, Sunless Sea, has funded. And doing so within hours of the campaign going live. So Sunless Skies reached the goal of £100,000 ($126,600 USD) yesterday afternoon with 29 days to go. While the numbers continue to climb.
So this time around, instead of piloting a ship in the vast underground “zee”. Players will control a space-faring locomotive. Therefore players will “behold wonders and battle cosmic abominations in the furthest heavens. Stake your claim. Fight to survive. Speak to storms. Murder a sun. Face judgement.”
Sunless Sea is still a unique game that has an impressive 81/100 on Metacritic rating. Critics are praising the atmosphere and interesting systems, while diminishing its lack of polish and at times frustrating design decisions. Yet developer Failbetter Games is not shackling themselves with the success, or shortcomings, of the original. Hence the High Wilderness is a much different setting than the underground zee.
It is the dawn of the 20th century, and London has taken to the stars! As the captain of a space-faring locomotive you’ll behold wonders and battle cosmic abominations in the furthest heavens. Stake your claim. Fight to survive. Speak to storms. Murder a sun. Face judgement.
Sunless Skies tells the story of one possible future of the Fallen London Universe. Ten years have passed since Sunless Sea, and Queen Victoria has led an exodus from London to the heavens. There, a revitalised British Empire – ambitious and authoritarian – begins to expand across the skies.
The games Kickstarter is still going strong for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. So get your pledges in for Sunless Skies.
