Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff open-world RPG game has an update for Linux and Mac, due to join Windows PC. All due to further details from developer Kindred Games. Which is still going strong via Steam Early Access.
Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff is a casual, open-world RPG centered around the joy of discovery. Along with cooperative online multiplayer in mind. Although it plays just as well as a single player experience. You play a blank slate adventurer just waiting for you to carve out a destiny for them. With no classes, character levels, or real restrictions, you can be whoever you want to be. Also, use whatever weapons and items you can buy, craft or loot. And play however you wish. In Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff, you play at your own pace with no hand-holding.
Kindred Games had a very successful Kickstarter at the beginning of last year. Not to mention a successful early access launch in September of 2020. Helping the developer create this project into our dream game. While offering over 50 hours of content and tons of hidden items and secrets. Players have plenty to discover in this casual, cooperative, open world RPG.
Linux Support:
Currently, Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff is only available for Windows PC. But thanks to a recent email reply from developer Kindred Games, we have a Linux update.
So while Linux and Mac are definitely goals of ours, they might end up being pushed back until the game is mostly finished. And we won’t have to continually test and update each month for them.
The developer is currently focusing on Mac support, as promised via Kickstarter. But this is turning out to be a daunting task. But according to the email reply, it looks like support will not arrive until the game is close to the full release. The concern, maintaining support for the dev builds. Which would be a big task with all three platforms. With an aim first on Mac, then Linux after.
But according to the Discussions comment, Proton support works just fine. And as stated on the Steam page, Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff is due to be in Early Access for 1 to 2 years.
Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff – Farm ‘n Forge Update Launch
The Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff Farm ‘n Forge update, which launched July 22nd 2021. This brings several new systems to the core gameplay loop. Farming, cooking, blacksmithing, carpentry, and tailoring. These are all mechanics that you’ll love if you’re a fan of life-sim elements in RPGs.
For the first time, this update also brings access to the mainland of Tirawyn. Once you help repair the ferry, it’ll run on a schedule so you can hop on when you hear the bell. Catch a ride across to the rolling fields of the Farmlands, so you can explore all the new content Tirwayn has to offer.
On top of this, the Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff update introduces new mechanics and quests. Also more than 500 new items, enemies, and much more. The update is so jam packed, you might even say it’s a completely different game from when we launched in September.
The Witch’s Eve update, which launched October 19th 2021, brought our Halloween event back from 2020 with new additions. The Witch’s Eve event was a limited-time update, but this update also introduced a new permanent area, Grimwick Graveyard. Available in East Windless Woods along with the first official boss fight of the game. Alchemy made its way into the game starting in Sleepy Haven, the main town in Windless Woods.
December update:
The Frostfall update, launches tomorrow December 22nd 2021. Due to bring back the remote Snowpeak Village off the coast of Northest North. Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff players will be able to visit through a portal and experience the cozy village. Fighting off the marshmallow-stealing snowmen and waking the fierce ice golem. Included in this year’s update is a huge update to the animal companion system. Players can now manage animal companions through the stable. They can gain experience, level up, and can be healed with biscuits and treats. They now have better pathing and AI, are revivable and more.
New for this year, with both holiday and non-holiday, are furniture items, food recipes, and houses. Furniture items like armoires and dressers have been upgraded to actually store items. Display cases, weapon racks, dishes, and more have been added to now hold items to show them off in your houses. The possibilities are endless.
Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff open-world RPG game is certainly worth playing, even via Proton. Available on Steam priced at $19.99 USD / £15.49 / 16,79€. Only available on Windows PC, but coming to Linux and Mac closer to version 1.0.
