Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night cancels support

bloodstained ritual of the night cancels support for linux games

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night side-scrolling game cancels support for Linux. The upcoming opus from the renowned Koji Igarashi for Linux, Mac and Windows. At least that’s what we thought during the Kickstarter back in 2015. And being that I’m one of those backers for the Kickstarter campaign, this is a huge disappointment.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night releases a new Beta Demo for Windows, but not for Linux. Coming to backers thanks to publisher 505 Games and independent developer ArtPlay.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night DICO Interview

Since Koji Igarashi’s ArtPlay released a new video. Hence the upcoming #Igavania game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for Linux, Mac and #Windows PC’s.

So the video focuses on DICO. A Tokyo-based developer that has been working with ArtPlay to develop the game. While more specifically focusing on the #games unnamed Technical Director.

Interview with DICO

So the video is all subtitled. Since it’s Iga himself doing the interviewing. Talking about the challenges of developing a 2.5D game in Unreal Engine 4. And it’s definitely interesting to watch.

So we can all hear how the developers are working in the interview. While highlighting the positive aspects of both 2D and 3D games. Since they are careful to avoid creating a game that showcases the bad aspects of both. And as a bonus, we get glimpses on gameplay. Which looks really well done. Including another look at the 3D model of Zangetsu. Which revealed a few weeks ago at Bitsummit in Kyoto.

Also, since 505 Games have issued a new trailer. We are eager to share just how impressive the game really looks. Let alone just what we can expect in the games final release.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night E3 2017 Trailer:

So you can check both videos above. Hopefully you can get an idea how the game will play on Linux, Mac and Windows PC. Since there is a bit of a character reveal. Which looks quite epic, so the bigger boss-fights are looking far more challenging. And I had to watch the trailer again, since some enemies have special finishing attacks. Including plenty of dodging, manoeuvring and completely avoiding.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2018. Set to release on Linux, Mac, Windows, PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita and Switch.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night early gameplay footage released

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Director Koji Igarashi issued a greatly #anticipated appearance over at the game’s official Kickstarter page this past weekend. Showing off the #game in #action for the first time.

The footage is still very early and uses the Miriam character model, which Igarashi is using to check for shader options. The foreground and background details have not yet been implemented. Rather, all we see is the level layout, which Igarashi says is used to judge scale, place enemies, and make sure things fit.

“This month we’d like to show you something that few people outside the development team ever get to see: A work-in-progress “grid” map that we’re using to test stage size, scrolling mechanics, enemy placement, and more. I’ve provided some narration to make it easier to see where we’re making progress.
We’re also revealing the katana animation. To provide our animators a reference for the motion, the team filmed me swinging an umbrella. Days after the video shoot I still had some muscle pain, but let’s please keep that between us.”

So far, the game development looks to be honing Symphony of the Night and the handheld Castlevania games. Miriam as a character model is visually detailed even at this early stage, but does seem a bit stiff in motion and Bloodstained seems to need more of an original twist to help it stand out. However, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming along well and so far the mechanics are shaping up.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is scheduled for a March 2017 release Linux, Mac, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U and PS Vita.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, new background, shaders and character graphics

The Metroidvania-style adventure from #KojiIgarashi and Inti Creates, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night are asking fans and backers for help in a #design #decision. Basically, how the game should look. From a soft to more illustrative, like the stained glass of the game’s artwork?

In a recent Kickstarter update the developers posted two potential visual styles, both for the game’s characters and backgrounds. Where fans and backers are asked to vote for which shader they prefer.

But they’ve come up with four variations anyway—a veritable shader Punnett square. What follows are Background 1/Character 1; Background 1/Character 3; Background 3/Character 1; and Background 3/Character 3.

Igarashi said the development team “We spent an enormous amount of time and effort on this third character shader to create an illustration effect. We tried to get closer to the requests of backers who hoped she would look more like the original design illustrations, and when I first saw this shader, I have to admit I was so impressed I actually gasped.
So we’ve compiled a few options of these background and character shaders put together and would like to see what you think. And, as I’ve pointed out in the latest Ask IGA, this will be our final request for art-direction feedback. I’d like to ask for any final thoughts you have now, so we can move forward and start putting things in motion,” in Bloodstained‘s latest update on Kickstarter.

Backers are invited to vote on the final art for the game through a Google Doc survey. There are a few more screenshots on the Kickstarter update page, with a mix of character and background shaders to see how the two art styles mesh.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is bound for Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Windows PC and Xbox One. The game raised more than $5.5 million on Kickstarter last year and expected to release in 2017.
