Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure comedy point ‘n click now on Kickstarter for Linux, Mac and PC

Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure is a Linux, Mac and Widnows PC #comedy point and click love letter to classic-era #LucasArts adventures, Hitchcock, #HPLovecraft, and many others now on Kickstarter.

A lighthearted spoof of the Cthulhu Mythos, Gibbous will have you controlling 3 protagonists, dealing with strange cultists, ancient voodoo, and Dead Cthulhu himself. Well, “dead” is just a matter of opinion… But you really came here for the bullet points, didn’t you?
Taking place in the present day, things have been getting weird around Darkham lately – well, weirder than usual. Decadent cults that are rumored to worship strange deities have been popping all over the city, and they are all whispering about the resurgence of the dreaded Necronomicon.

  • Classic point and click gameplay inspired by the great Lucas Arts  games of yore!
  • Traditional frame by frame animation, just like back in the days (well, maybe a bit more frames)
  • Detailed, hand-painted background art!
  • Hugely diverse orchestral soundtrack!
  • Unique responses for item-hotspot combinations!
  • A focus on exploration and examining the environment!
  • Loving and respectful spoof of the Cthulhu Mythos
  • DRM-free or Steam Key!
  • Made in Transylvania!

A playable PT recreated in Unity for Linux, Mac and Windows PC

The Silent Hills playable #teaser known as PT, originally #released in 2014 as a PS4 free game in the PlayStation Store. But #HideoKojima pulled the title from the store and blocked anyone who already had the game from re-downloading it. So those who missed the experience, well, it is now possible to play a small portion of the game on Linux, Mac and Windows PC, thanks to Farhan Qureshi. The aspiring game developer recreated an accurate and very detailed PT hallway in Unity.

“I started this project for a 3D modelling workshop I’m planning to teach in September. The workshop will focus on teaching the fundamentals of modelling, texturing, animation, and materials, and applying these skills by creating a 3D scene. Originally I wanted to create an apartment scene for its simplicity, variety, and familiarity, but I wanted something more game-focused as the workshop is being targeted at the Calgary Game Developers. I ended up choosing the PT hallway as it’s an interior scene fairly close to an apartment, and the simplicity, variety, and familiarity still exist. Plus it’s no longer available to download, but I can make it live on in some fashion by doing this.”

Creating this hallway was a major undertaking, “104 hours over 4 weeks. 5 hours of sleep on half of those days. 8-hour obsession-infused modelling sessions. Thinking of what I wanted to implement while dishwashing at my job.”

PuniTy is available for Linux, Mac and 32 and 64-bit Windows. You can pick it up from Itch io, the Dropbox link has been disabled due to high traffic.

Dota 2 Reborn Beta now available for Linux

When Dota 2 first arrived it later spent quite a while Beta, which seems to be common for some multiplayer games. The detail about the #release of Dota 2 Reborn was the lack of Linux and Mac OS X #platform #support at release. But do keep in mind, Dota 2 is still one of the most played games on Steam, with so many players that any in-game changes will invariably cause a reaction.

Last week developers mentioned details of the coming Linux and Mac version of Dota 2 Reborn, which would arrive in a couple of weeks. But as we found out recently, support has arrived earlier than expected, pushing out a new patch for the game and adding native support.
Detailed in the changes are some bug fixes for non-QWERTY keyboard layouts, familiars are no longer visible in FoW, added support for a wider range of bindable keys, the Ember Spirit voice has been fixed, and what seems like a never ending list.

How to enable DOTA 2 Reborn Beta on Steam for Linux.

Now if you want to check out the new DOTA 2 Reborn Beta on Linux, just right-click Dota 2 in your library, select Properties and put a check to enable the installer.

Now if you download Dota 2 Reborn, notice a considerable size increase for the game files, set at 30.2 GB’s upon installation. And what seems like a 7.3 GB download file is deceiving, so expect the installer to grab another 6.7 GB’s, giving you a grand total of 14 GB’s to download.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be a 45GB download

Batman: Arkham Knight is expected to be 45GB download on all platforms, according to recent digital store listings. And also, Nvidia released this video showing #Rocksteady’s title using the card maker’s GameWorks technology.

Steam, along with other stores have the game’s download size listed, 45 GB’s. Which is not really out of the ordinary for games now. Well for those who have a speedy internet connection, this is not such a big deal. Finding the hard drive space sometimes can be, with a couple of these big titles installed.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One June 23 and due to launch on Linux and Mac this fall.

Papetura adventure game now on Indiegogo for Linux, Mac and Windows PC with a playable demo

Papetura the most visually #stunning #handcrafted #games we have come across in some time. An adventure game, starring a paper curl of a chap and his little cat. Set in a magical paper world with the most incredible spotlighting that makes everything glow. This a short demo up for download, starting you off being swallowed by a paper whale, as developers Petums are working their way through crowdfunding the game.

HD Demo versions download:   [Linux] [Mac] [PC]

Check out the demo in this teaser trailer:

The demo really is not much longer than that, with one short and simple puzzle but we arecertainly keen to see a lot more. Petums point out game is like The Neverhood and Machinarium as adventuring inspirations, and the demo does play the same way. They are evening hoping to involve Machinarium composer Floex for the soundtrack.

The tiny studio are looking for $13,000 (£8,600-ish) on Indiegogo to finish development, planning to release it on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC near the end of 2016. Pledging at least $9 (£6) would get you a copy of the finished game. Which they say will be 2-3 hours long.
