Sublevel Zero and Satellite Reign game breaking Unity workaround for 64 bit Linux

#SublevelZero fully released on Linux recently. However, something in Linux Mint 17.1 64-bit left the game unable to launch for some reason, no matter what changes we made. So Linux Game News reached out to developer #SIGTRAP hoping to find a workaround, with no effective resolve after a solid afternoon/evening of exchanging emails.
Needless to say, we tried a bunch of other Unity based games and every one worked, except for #SatelliteReign.

In the Player.log file in ~/.config/unity3d/SIGTRAP Games/Sublevel Zero, no new error messages were showing.

Finally, SIGTRAP forwarded a link to a Steam community post by Stephen for 64-bit FMOD/Black Screen Issue, where entering the following “Launch Option” fixed the game start-up issue:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=”/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH” %command%

Other Unity games work perfectly fine, so this has to have something to do with a particular version of Unity. And we tried this same fix for Sublevel Zero aswell, the game now works properly once again.

Hopefully this is helpful to the developers as well as other players and how to fix it.

Pillars of Eternity has a game-breaking bug with an upcoming fix

The crowdfunded title Pillars of Eternity has been sighted with a #gamebreaking #bug. Developer Obsidian is working to issue  #fix. So make sure to you do not double-click items to equip them for your character. Simply drag an item into a slot from the inventory screen.

“If you double click an item to equip it to your character, your character loses ALL Passives/Racials/Permanent Buffs, forever. The abilities remain listed in the abilities/talents section, but if they aren’t in active effects, then perhaps you’ve already encountered the bug first hand.” However players may reload an old save and proceed, obviously that forsakes any progress between that save and triggering the bug.

The bug is explained at length in this thread on Obsidian’s official forums. An Obsidian developer replied mentioning a fix for the bug is in the works “trying to make it retroactive, so it will fix any save games that have this problem.”

Should the bug affect party members, removing them from the party and adding them back fixes the problem. Other posts report that passive buffs do not show up, but appear to still be present and working.

Pillars of Eternity released last week, March 26th for Linux, Mac and Windows PC after being delayed to polish and tune the game.
