Game engine Godot goes open source

Godot, an in-house game engine, is now available under an MIT license. With a feature-set similar to Unity, Godot has already been ported to multiple platforms and the popular game consoles.

Their official website mentions: “Godot is a fully featured, open source, MIT licensed, game engine. It focuses on having great tools, and a visual oriented workflow that can export to PC, Mobile and Web platforms with no hassle.”

Godot Engine boasts of a track-record of more than a decade of published games.

It brings to the table an array of features and a different approach to making games, which combined allow single developers and teams to be more efficient than ever, the company claims.

Juan Linietsky earlier talked about releasing the Godot Engine under the MIT license by February. “I’m not interested in selling it, as that requires a huge amount of money for promotion and support, I’d rather license it as an open source, MIT license engine,” Linietsky as saying.
