We have yet to see a Leadwerks Game Engine title make a #debut in Linux news. Yet developer 101brandx just released their indie title this month in gaming early this month. Hence Enshrouded World, a #vehicularcombat #game, featuring a non-linear progression and survival elements. Most of which has not available in the genre until now. Story

While the world is suffering from centuries of human destruction. Including an overpopulation crisis and the quality of life almost depleted with mass migration to cryogenic storage facilities. Hence a supplementary virtual reality taking place over the appalling conditions on Earth.

So here, players assume the role of Jill. A botanist and member of an elite team tasked with managing the oxygen production. Supporting the millions of people currently in stasis. So with artificially established urban centers complete. Hence the team now prepares for the procedures in place to so those in stasis awaken to the new world.

Since we have yet to see any Leadwerks games in the news. Enshrouded World is a viable example.

Leadwerks Software today announced their #topselling game #development system on #Steam, Leadwerks Game Engine, has gained a user base of over 10,000 paid customers. Although the game development space has seen a dramatic drop in prices and the entry of many free competitors, Leadwerks Game Engine continues to gain popularity by teaching complete beginners how to make games with no previous knowledge required, and providing a pathway to publish directly to Steam Workshop.

Leadwerks’ ease of use is made possible by a layered development system that gradually eases beginners into game development. At its simplest, Leadwerks Editor is a drag-and-drop system with a visual interface for creating game interactions. Users can drill down to the Lua script level to modify behaviour and create new game mechanics. Experts can get even more advanced and access the Leadwerks API directly in C++ with the Standard Edition DLC. This layered development system means that Leadwerks provides a smooth learning curve that grows with the user as they learn more.

Leadwerks Game Launcher is the company’s portal for user-made games, and is currently available for free on Steam as an early access title with over 40 free games. Leadwerks Game Engine 3.7

The upcoming version 3.7 update is planned to add a new vegetation system and other features. Unlike traditional vegetation systems that store each tree instance in memory, the Leadwerks 3.7 vegetation system allocates objects procedurally. This allows the user to create infinitely dense forests that consume no extra memory. The Leadwerks 3.7 vegetation system is set to be featured in a chapter in the upcoming book Game Engine Gems 3, published by A K Peters / CRC Press. Leadwerks Game Engine 3.7 is a free update scheduled for release in December 2015.

Linux support for the Leadwerks game engine has arrived on Steam. #Developers can now use the tool suite to #build and play games within the Linux environment. The firm claims that, in most cases, #games developed for Windows can also be played on the operating system with “no changes and no recompiling”.

Following completion of their successful Kickstarter campaign to bring Leadwerks’ game development software to Linux, Leadwerks has announced the release of Leadwerks Game Engine for Linux on the Steam distribution platform.  This provides Linux users with a powerful tool to easily create their own 3D games.

Following completion of a successful Kickstarter campaign to bring Leadwerks’ game #development software to Linux, Leadwerks and Canonical have joined forces
to make Leadwerks Game Engine available in the Ubuntu Software Center. This provides Ubuntu users with a powerful #gaming tool for rapid development.

In an industry first, Leadwerks has chosen to focus on Ubuntu as the company’s primary supported platform. For many users, Leadwerks provides the last missing application they need to move entirely over to Ubuntu. With Leadwerks now available in the Ubuntu Software Center, developers can build and play games without ever leaving the Ubuntu operating system.

Leadwerks CEO Josh Klint explains his reasoning for the move. “The PC platform plays to the company’s strengths in graphics and development tools. Linux is where the really exciting developments are happening, on the desktop and in the living room. Leadwerks for Linux is designed to bring user-friendly game development to desktop Linux, and Ubuntu is the leader in this space, so it makes sense to focus our efforts there. Growing a community of Ubuntu game developers is our primary goal over the next 12 months.”

Bringing Leadwerks Game Engine to Ubuntu also means that existing games can be more easily deployed for Ubuntu. The lineup of featured games on the Leadwerks website covers a diverse range of genres including strategy, action, and simulations. Michael Juliano, developer of the space combat simulation game Rogue System, says that he is now planning on Ubuntu support in his upcoming title due to the ease of deployment Leadwerks provides.
“One of the reasons we chose Leadwerks was due to its strong support for Linux”, said Michael. “We’re definitely interested in bringing Rogue System to
Ubuntu.”

Leadwerks Game Engine Arrives on Steam as Gamers Turn into Developers

People without formal training or any semblance of programming skills are normally excluded from the video games industry.
Over the years, there have been plenty of programs that allowed enthusiasts to tinker with #game making in the comfort of their own home. For that matter, there are entire online communities dedicated to the remaking of Pokemon games using RPG #Maker – talk about a rush! It’s not strange, then, that Leadwerks Software, a company founded with powerful and easy to use game development tools in mind, has decided to share this glorious technology with the world through Steam.

After successfully pushing through Greenlight in a mere 27 days, Leadwerks Software have announced the launch of the Leadwerks Game Engine: Indie Edition, to be exclusively available through Steam. According to Leadwerks, it’s a program designed to make game development easy for Steam’s entire user base, with the benefit of a royalty-free license for making commercial products.

The program boasts a new renderer built on OpenGL 4.0, which will provide high-end graphics comparable with modern games, as well as built-in level design tools to make design easy for those without the artists touch, and game code language, Lua. For those that don’t know, Lua is one of the easiest script languages to learn, and is used in many commercial games; such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and a heap of Linux titles.
The company also notes that extensive documentation is included, which is great because even running the simplest game development software is probably an exercise in futility if you cannot figure out how to stop it from constantly telling you to give up on your dreams and get a real job.

This will be on Windows only, with support for Lua scripting.  The following groups will receive a free Steam key to add this product to their Steam account:

  • Leadwerks 3.0 customers who pre-order the upgrade to version 3.1.
  • New customers who pre-order Leadwerks 3.1.
  • All Kickstarter backers who backed Leadwerks for Linux for $49 or more.  (Even if you don’t run Windows, hold onto this as the Linux version on Steam will have special features.)

Leadwerks 3.1 for Linux and Windows will be released together next, with the exact release date to be determined.  Leadwerks 3.1 for Mac will follow this, with mobile add-ons for iOS and Android coming last.  (There is no purchase necessary to upgrade the mobile add-ons from Leadwerks 3.0 to Leadwerks 3.1.)
