Carmageddon Reincarnation update for Linux

carmageddon reincarnation update ensures linux and mac ports

A generation of gamers coming to the end of a decade of 2D, wireframe, and corridor #combat, it was an awesome introduction to the concept of the “real” 3D #openworld, do-whatever-you-want #gameplay, Carmageddon Reincarnation. And in doing so it also introduced the gaming world to the whole concept of realistic physics and real-time dynamic damage.

Stainless Games decided to  remake of the original title with the support of backers in the successful Kickstarter. This was a unique and yet to be explored idea, but nothing is available with the same reputation of mayhem.

Stainless also outlined Linux support and now the developers have issued a Kickstarter update explaining that native support has not be abandoned.

“We are continuing to work on improvements in a number of key areas, including the long-awaited faster level loading times and further significant performance improvements. So, we’ll continue to roll out updates over the course of the coming months, and more details of dates and what to expect will follow. We will also have updated news on the scheduling of the Mac & Linux versions of Carmageddon Reincarnation.”

And relive all the mangling mayhem with a fabulously updated Action Replay System, with multiple cameras and replay options – it will mean you never miss a pile-up again! Get those movies online and brag about your ped culling achievements. And there will be plenty of THOSE too – oh yes… Achievements, Challenges and Collectibles to hunt down, that’ll keep the whole family entertained for hour upon happy blood and oil splattered hour.

Carmageddon Reincarnation Features:

  • Single Player Career mode
  • Freeplay mode
  • Online & Offline Multiplayer mode
  • CarMODgeddon mods mode

No release date has been announced, but the fact that Carmageddon: Reincarnation is still under development is positive. And as with quite a few game releases, the developers are focusing on the Windows PC build before porting to other platforms.

For now, follow Carmageddon Reincarnation on Twitter and Stainless Games on Facebook.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation hits Steam Early Access

Back about a month we told you that Carmageddon: Reincarnation would enter Steam’s Early Access program in the first quarter of this year. And low and behold it came true!

Yes, like very few prophets before us, we were correct and you can now gain early access to Carmageddon: Reincarnation through Steam. #Kickstarter #backers within the appropriate tier will have been playing for a fortnight now, but everyone can now get in on the act, belting about the three available tracks (with a total of five race routes) in one of the seven available cars – including the Cop APC and the Cop CU.NT patrol car.

The Early Access version is currently only available for Windows PCs and will set you back $29.99 USD – the Mac and Linux versions will be available once the game is finished. You can visit the Steam page to buy Reincarnation and you can visit the official site for more info – including changelogs and other news of importance. In the meantime though, check out the game’s latest trailer – it’s embedded below.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation coming this month to Steam Early Access

March 27 is the date on which +Carmageddon : Reincarnation will be arriving in the form of a pre-alpha version through the Steam Early Access program. Developer #StainlessGames has confirmed this news by means of a new press release, and has also revealed that its #Kickstarter backers will be able to get into it two weeks prior to the said date. A price for this game has not been revealed however.

Carmageddon Reincarnation coming later this month to Steam Early Access

A video showcasing the progress of the title has also been released, and can be spotted in the space below. As can be observed, development is still at a very early stage. Carmageddon: Reincarnation is set to revive the controversial ‘points for pedestrians’ destruction derby style which was made famous by its ancient predecessors. The first game was released in 1997, whereas its sequel had come out in 1998.

Carmageddon: Total Destruction Racing 2000 or Carmageddon 3: TDR 2000 had been launched in 2000. This new entry will see Stainless Games once again returning to their series. Following various changes in the publishing department, the game finally settled for Kickstarter funding. $400,000 was set as the initial goal, but the title managed to raise $625,143 at the end of its run. Additional funding received by the developers later on confirmed a next–gen release as well. The game will now be launched for the PS4 and Xbox One, apart from PC, Mac and Linux.

The wait for Steam users to get into Carmageddon: Reincarnation will finally be over on March 27, but what remains to be seen is what kind of a pricing model this pre-alpha version carries with it.

Carmageddon Reincarnation Mac and Linux versions confirmed

”carmageddon-reincarnation”

Stainless Games announced they have not only reached their Kickstarter goal for their “Reincarnation” of the long lost race franchise Carmageddon, but they’ve also surpassed it. The studio only needed $400,000 to develop another edition of the supremely gory racing game, but they managed to raise more than $625,000 in their allotted deadline. They even managed to sell the three $10,000 donation slots, earning those donors a trip to the UK to Stainless Studios where developers will create their likeness and story in the new game as an opponent.

Mac and Linux versions of Carmageddon Reincarnation are confirmed after its Kickstarter ended with 156 per cent of its target raised.

In addition to a copy of the game backers receive rewards ranging from t-shirts to posters, miniature models of the game’s cars to a chance to appear in the game as a pedestrian. The top tier reward was to become one of the game’s driver characters with a custom car of your own design. This reward sold out, with all three places taken up by backers who were willing to give $10,000.

Patrick Buckland, Stainless co-founder and CEO said: “This result is way beyond our expectations, and shows again how fantastic this crowd funding model can be for the independent developer.

“We’re so pleased to have been one of the band of pioneering videogame studios on Kickstarter. It shows what a fantastic opportunity this is for both the indie studios and gamers alike.”

Stainless co-founder Neil “Nobby” Barnden added: “We want to thank all of our backers for making the last month so exciting and such a huge success. Interacting directly with the people pledging money to see our project come to fruition has been a fantastic experience. We’d recommend it to any studio out there who might be thinking of taking the plunge into a Kickstarter campaign themselves… It’s mad, it’s exhausting, but SO rewarding.”
