All Walls Must Fall tech-noir tactics Kickstarter funded

all walls must fall tech-noir tactics kickstarter funded in linux gaming news

Recently independent developer, #inbetweengames, announced the #success of the initial €15,000 target, after only 5 days. Hence the impressive but not surprising news for the tech-noir tactics game, All Walls Must Fall on Linux, Mac and Windows PC. This crowdfunding campaign is still climbing on #Kickstarter. Now having unlocked the first stretch goal of €20,000. Which now introduces Vandalism while gaming. Featuring an extended cover system, more destructible objects, the ability to knock down walls with the cybernetic fist. Yet also comes with a pulsating Acid Techno track from Jukio Kallio (Nuclear Throne and LUFTRAUSERS).

“We are ecstatic over the news of our reaching the initial funding goal for All Walls Must Fall, in the first five days. So we would like to thank every backer that has belief in our vision, now we can turn this into a reality,” said Jan David Hassel, Designer of inbetweengames. “Since we are excited about pushing our vision of gaming for All Walls Must Fall further. Hence the announcement of two stretch goals of Vandalism! And Act 2: West Berlin”.

Since further stretch goals include unlocking of Act 2: West Berlin to the closed alpha if the Kickstarter campaign hits €75,000. The introduction of Act 2: West Berlin, will double the campaign length, introduce Alev – a cyber-warrior, who represents the present and whose brand of time manipulation revolves around the present, with the abilities to FREEZE (where the world stops moving but Alev can still act) and SPLIT (where an avatar copy repeats the first set of Alev’s actions. while she performs a second). Like all agents, she also is an expert with UNDO.

all walls must fall west berlin stretch goal

While coming with a sleek cyberpunk aesthetic and pulsating electronic soundtrack. All Walls Must Fall is on schedule to launch on Linux, Mac and Windows PC. All Walls Must Fall combines classic turn based gameplay with a heavy emphasis on music. All inspired by the likes of X-Com, Syndicate and Rez.

In the world of All Walls Must Fall, the Cold War never ended. For 150 years, both sides have used time manipulation technology to observe and counter each other’s every move. Now this fragile state of affairs is approaching breaking point. Since a rogue nuclear strike has been ordered, this will send the world into turmoil. Both sides have scrambled to send agents back in time to find the person behind the order in the hope they might prevent it. If they fail, the whole world will turn to ash, forever.

All Walls Must Fall is an isometric tactics game where action happens to the pulsing beat of the music. And having played the pre-Alpha on Linux, we have to point out that this is an impressive game. Where players control time travelling secret agents as they jump and loop through a single night in the city of Berlin. Using a pausable real-time system, players can carefully plan decisions and use powerful time manipulation abilities to your advantage. All while you carry out your mission in the shadows or in plain sight. Levels are procedurally recombined using a bespoke system developed by inbetweengames. Therefore All Walls Must Fall has a highly replayable campaign structure. While still offering individually crafted components and set-pieces.

So our gaming news feature for the All Wall Must Fall Kickstarter is certainly worth a look. Let alone very worthy of a pledge. For more details check out the official website.

System Shock remake will see Linux and Mac support

System Shock remake will see Linux and Mac support

#Nightdive Studios’ System Shock remake Kickstarter has passed the $1.1m stetch goal, marking a definite #release for Linux and Mac after hitting the stretch goal. In announcing the additional #platforms, Nightdive have also changed one of their other stretch goals. The $1.4m target had initially read “RPG elements” and Nightdive have addressed the issue, “it was vague and misleading”. Now adding more maps if $1.4m is reached and those RPG elements will be included whatever the final figure.

The original stretch goal was not only vague but “pretty dangerous”. With the core systems being a possibility rather than a fundamental part of development seems like a very risky. From the level design to the AI and weapon balancing should be detailed to highlight any RPG elements rather than leaving them uncertain could hold back or disrupt development.

Here’s how System Shock remake RPG elements involve:

Stats are boring – Instead of letting the player feel stronger with stat boosts and level identification, we’re more in favor of ability and skill depth. As the player progresses, they will get more abilities/weapons, which will take skill to master (player skill, not skill points)

Things should make sense – We want to have vending machines, but they’re mainly for food/drinks that the player can get to help heal themselves or provide a slight boost to their abilities. You won’t hack a vending machine to get a gun, since why would a vending machine on a space station have a gun?

Upgrades are good in moderation – Throughout the game, the player will find upgrades to their abilities and find better weapons. We’re not going to get crazy with this one since the point of the game is to have fun, and not noodle around in your inventory. If something is tedious, don’t expect us to do it.

Multiple ways to solve a problem – We’re going to assume our players are smart and want to find creative solutions to problems/enemies. We’ll provide the tools/weapons/abilities, and the player will decide how they want to solve the problem given their playstyle.

Nightdive have outlined that everything is in the early stages, so this should not be taken as a definite feature list. However this answers one of the most important questions a developer can ask of themselves:

At the end of the day, we always ask ourselves “What would Looking Glass do?” and strive to carry on their tradition of innovation and quality while being as faithful as we can be to the original game.

Now with the Linux and Mac versions confirmed, a demo for Mac will be coming soon as well. Play can get into some gameplay with the pre-alpha demo for Linux and Windows PC by following the links on the Kickstarter page.

Linux System Shock remake Demo

Due to popular demand, we’ve put some time into getting the Linux version of the pre-alpha demo ready for all of you (well, the Linux users out there). We’re doing this before we hit the stretch goal for Linux as a gesture of good faith, but please understand that the Linux demo does not guarantee a Linux version of the final game unless we hit the stretch goal. It took quite a bit of time to get it all working on Linux, as well as a bit of internal testing. Launching on other platforms takes time to adequately support and deploy, which is why the stretch goal is vital.

You can download the Linux demo via Steam, but you’ll need to install the audio library separately as per these instructions from Audio Kinetic’s site.

Note: The Wwise Unity Integration for Linux needs libSDL2 installed on the machine to work. Without this, a “DLLNotFoundException” message is displayed when launching the game. To install libSDL2 for Ubuntu 12.04, do the following:

  • sudo apt-get install build-essential libasound2-dev
  • wget https://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL2-2.0.3.tar.gz
  • tar -zxvf SDL2-2.0.3.tar.gz
  • cd SDL2-2.0.3
  • ./configure
  • make
  • sudo make install
  • sudo ldconfig

Note: The requirements may vary depending on the machine’s configuration. Refer to libsdl.org for installation instructions on other setups.

The $1.4 stretch goal will now focus on the following:

It’s to add content in the form of more maps such as Groves, floors of Citadel Station, and Cyberspace content. This will make it better for us to properly execute on our core vision of the game, while still being able to offer some more awesome content if we hit the stretch goal.

There are only 4 day left for System Shock remake Kickstarter, but rest assured now that Linux, Mac and Windows PC will be supported.

3 unique guns revealed in Inner Chains, check out the video and Linux support in sight

With  2 more weeks to go  and the first stretch goal of $15,000 almost reached, Telepaths Tree developers are on a good way to double their initial Kickstarter goal and raise $20,000 in funding.

It turns out there must be quite some Linux gamers out there, waiting impatiently for Inner Chains release and #supporting the game’s #crowdfunding campaign, as it has almost reached the first stretch goal on Kickstarter. $15,000 will allow developers to #release the game not only on PC with VR support, but also on Linux. And with just $5,000 more Telepaths Tree will be able to bring two, new, deadly opponents to the game. To make it happen and bring more backers to the campaign, they have decided to shed more light on one of the most important things in games with FPS factor. And that thing being guns!

Some of them were already revealed on Inner Chains’ Kickstarter campaign page, where Electro Gun was introduced among others. But one thing are concept arts or screenshots even. Another is a video showing the gun in action and the impact it’s electric power has on the environment. Keen to see what’s Electro Gun is capable of?

In the world of Inner Chains you never quite know what is alive and what is mechanical. During the biomechanical evolution various creatures were formed, that accumulate huge amounts of energy. Watch them carefully to learn how to use them for your own benefit. And look for places where the energy overflow is being released, to increase your health and recharge your weapons’ batteries.

Biomechanical plants you’ll meet on your way also accumulate energy from the environment. And it also quite often happens, that they gather too much of it. Which results in vegetation in Inner Chains being completely unpredictable. The energy overflow can cause a hyper-excitability in plants you’ll encounter, which is shown on the already mentioned VIDEO. You can use this feature against your opponents but you can become a victim of it just as easily. And there are many more such surprises in Inner Chains.

Going a bit more into details when it comes to ElectroGun – operating it is based on electricity which is all around you. Your goal will be to find places where this energy is released, to recharge your gun’s batteries. Remember about this at all times. Otherwise ElectroGun will start to look for energy it needs inside you, turning itself into parasite and you into its host.

The basic function of ElectroGun is to throw lightning strikes at your opponents. But you will be able to find upgrades for it, to raise its power. To a point where you’re able to throw ball lightning which has the ability of injuring several enemies at once.

As impressive as it is though, Electro Gun won’t be your only weapon in Inner Chains. You will also have Flame Thrower and Bone Gun at your disposal.

You will use your FlameThrower not only as an offensive weapon but quite often as a defensive one. Soon enough you’ll learn that a proper use of it, will be your only chance to survive.

Just like in case of ElectroGun, there are several updates available for your FlameThrower, which will either increase its power or unlock an alternative strike. One that makes a serious havoc.

BoneGun is probably the most unique of them all, as its ammo was formed thanks to the crystallization of some natural ingredients. Ingredients that are naturally present in all living beings. Including yourself. So  be careful while using a gun, that feeds on them.

BoneGun in its basic form enables continuous fire, but finding upgrades for it, will allow you to use it as a traditional riffle with a high firepower. Or you can decide to simply increase the power of the continuous fire.

Remember that every weapon you use in Inner Chains impacts the environment this or other way. So watch your surroundings closely, to be able to pave the way to your destination point. And never forget to mind your own health while using weapons being at your disposal, as all of them act like parasites and treat you as their host.

Inner Chains is a FPS horror game set in a surreal, dark, and deadly biomechanical world that resembles nothing you have ever encountered. In the world of Inner Chains, you don’t get to set the rules. You are just a small part of a hostile, unwelcoming universe. If you want to survive, the only thing you can do is to try to discover its secrets.

  • Unprecedented methods of interaction between weapons, their users, and the environment.
  • A dark biomechanical world where both fauna and flora lie in wait for your slightest stumble.
  • VR Support.
  • Stunning surreal visual style.
  • Deadly, intelligent, and challenging opponents.
  • Unusual locations with their own unique stories.
  • A dense, suggestive atmosphere of terror, magnified by the great soundtrack composed by Michał Staczkun.
  • Subtle thriller elements that will fill you with fear in unusual, inventive ways.
  • Thrilling action combined with an interesting, hair-raising story.

To pledge your support, go to the Inner Chains’ Kickstarter campaign page. And to follow the development of the game, visit Inner Chains official website and follow on Facebook and Twitter profiles.
