The Karters racing game coming to Linux

the karters racing game coming to linux windows pc early access

The Karters, a #racing game that is clearly inspired by CTR’s gameplay and overall design, aims to invoke its #nostalgia but also grab the attention of a new generation of players, to whom the legendary #CrashTeamRacing is perhaps a less familiar title. By recreating its dynamics and speed, Cmoar Studio has made an attempt to create a game that even Crash by himself would not hesitate to take part in … if he hadn’t been retired.

Become a member of The Karters team and prove who’s the champion of the race! Grab one of the killing weapons, compete with the opponents and smash them in the Arena mode.  Challenge your friends in a local or global multiplayer, where only one can win. Pick one of the thrilling maps and try to find alternative routes to outsmart your rivals and get the gold!

All the excitement, rush and the taste of victory await in The Karters’ Announcement Trailer that you can watch below:

The creators, who have always been great fans of Crash Team Racing, used to wonder what this game could look like in modern times. Sebastian Boczek, the CEO of Cmoar Studio, recalls: “While browsing through various forums about CTR, it became clear to me that the community shares our desire for a more up-to-date karting game, especially the one that would support online multiplayer.” Ambitious as it may seem, the creators hope to bridge the gap that the almost 16 years old title has left. “I realize that Crash Team Racing is a legend that set the bar high. However, by putting a strong emphasis on the mechanics and marking the game with its unique style, we do hope The Karters will bring players lots of joy and pure fun,” he adds.

Now on The Karters on Steam with the intent to release an Early Access in May/June for Windows PC. While Cmoar Studio commented on the Linux release, “we are using Unity Game Engine. There won’t be any problems with supporting Linux platform. However, I am unable to tell when exactly it will happen.”

The creators wish to show to the world the outcomes of their 8 months of work but, more importantly, they aim at gathering community that will have a real impact on how the game will unfold. A direct contact with the players or the fans of this genre will allow the continual and rapid development of the game and will help the creators to reassess the maps, gameplay and mechanics.

More information about the game can be found on the official website, Facebook and Twitter profiles.

OpenMandriva opens new portal for Linux gamers to play Windows titles

OpenMandriva Games is a new portal #available online OpenMandriva.org for English users and for Brazilian Portuguese as well. At the first look, the portal contains a collection of #tutorials aimed at teaching new OpenMandriva Linux users how to #install various games.

The OpenMandriva website outlines, “Our idea in this blog is provide tutorials to run the most popular Windows Games in Open Mandriva Linux.
Whenever possible we will give tips on how to perform the same procedure in other Linux distributions.”
These are not only detailed installation instructions for some popular Windows games, but fixes for known issues reported by users. And the community members behind the project are looking for feedback from the community to list more titles for the portal.

The games currently available are some of the most popular, including Dota 2, Left 4 Dead 2, League of Legends (Windows PC), Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, Heroes of Newerth, Minetest, Alien Swarm (Windows PC), Gear UP, and Hearthstone (Windows PC). Upon clicking any one of the selected titles will present a user with in-depth installation instructions.
The team have also covered the distro’s own in-house method on how to install Steam for Linux on OpenMandriva. Which is a pleasure to see the client nicely integrated into their own repository.

From what we understand, the OpenMandriva team behind the Games portal is looking to add support for more titles, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, World of Warcraft (Windows PC), Sword Coast Legends, and Heroes of the Storm (Windows PC). Some of which will be available through Steam for Linux, others with the PlayOnLinux and Wine API.

Perception adventure horror game now on Kickstarter from former BioShock developer

Former #BioShock #developer Bill Gardner spent 12 years at Irrational Games, leading the design on some of the titles’ most impressive locations: Welcome to Rapture, the Medical Pavilion and Fort Frolic. Now an indie developer behind #TheDeepEndGames, Gardner launched his own Kickstarter campaign for a project called Perception. Set with a $150,000 funding goal and using Unreal Engine 4. This an adventure game that brings together the horror and mystery aspects of the BioShock series with the likes of Gone Home‘s first-person adventure.

The main character, a 29-year-old woman named Cassie Thornton, does not come with an arsenal of weapons, but her wit, cane and smart phone. Using these tools to find clues to unravel the history of the mansion and navigating her her way by echolocation. Every sound creates an outline of the environment as it ripples away from its source. But the house and has a deadly “Presence”, which goes to great lengths to prevent her from deciphering its secrets.

Making her way through the mansion called Echo Bluff in Gloucester, Mass. The “presence” is constantly surrounded by moths, schizophrenic, sometimes sounding like a man, other times a woman, buts always searching for Cassie. Every sound from the walking stick creates a visualization and illuminates the world around you.

Serving as creative director on Perception, Gardner already has a team of developers committed to working on the project. A list that includes former BioShock team Jim Bonney, Kirk Bezio, Robb Waters, Hung Nguyen, John Malaska, Justin Sonnekalb, and Jed Wahl, as well as Ben Johnson (The Godfather and Dead Space). Along with Desiree Fernandes a freelance artist and wife and fantasy novelist Amanda Gardner. Special effects are handled by studio FXVille, Inc., who will help in the games production.

The studio has been working on Perception for about six months now, with Gardner self-funding the development. With the possibility of virtual reality headsets, since Gardner believes Perception “could be exceptional on VR.”
The team is asking for $150,000 on Kickstarter to develop Perception for a June 2016 release on Windows PC. While Linux and Mac versions will take place once the $175,000 stretch goal is achieved.
