The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt wants free DLC to be an industry standard

the_witcher3_free_dlc_should_be_an_industry_standard.

Two months since the launch, but all of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s free DLC has been #releasedOfficial news came directly from #CDProjektRED co-founder, Marcin Iwiński thanking gamers for playing the The Witcher 3 along with the release of the last free DLC. The #developer went on to say, “I would really like to see such initiatives become an industry standard rather than an exception to the general rule.”

With all the new quests to alternative outfits, new combat animations, a new Game Plus mode. The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red went out of the their way compared to most game development studios, which does not include the team’s thorough post-launch patch support.

Now we come to the end of free DLC’s, CD Projekt Red outlines an example to other game studios, about how to treat DLC.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to all the gamers who played our game and gave these DLCs a try. Nothing makes a developer happier than seeing gamers have fun with what they created,” said co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski. ”

Do keep in mind that Witcher 3 will have paid DLC coming in two expansions releasing later this year. CD Projekt Red will offer up to 30 hours of additional gameplay combined, with the expansion pass retailing for $24.99.

CD Projekt Red have made comments before, the company does not believe in charging for minor pieces of content or updates to the game that really should be free. Giving a developer time to focus on large, enriching expansions with more playable content.

Comparing this model with the season pass for other games, which retail for $40 to $50 for new multiplayer maps, skins and weapons. CD Projekt Red have proven that its DLC practices go above and beyond the game industry’s DLC rules. So it should be interesting to see what other developers follow suit.
Of course Linux gamers are waiting for the native build to be released. But no word yet.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt patch notes release for 1.08

the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_patch_notes_for_update_1_08

Yesterday saw the release of the #patchnotes for the upcoming 1.08 update to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with an #expected #release of “arriving quite soon.”

This lastest update will deal with performance, graphics and fixing gameplay issues, such as the severed heads disappearing after finishing moves are performed.

Something to take note of in the update provided by CD Projekt RED:

In patch 1.07, the level requirements for certain items were scaled up, leaving some players stuck with only unusable gear. With patch 1.08, we are introducing the Wolven Hour potion. This potion will be available in everyone’s inventory once they install the patch. It will reduce level requirements on all gear for a period of one hour. This will give players time to level up or find alternative equipment using the gear that was available to them in patch 1.05 but became unusable after patch 1.07. After one hour, the potion’s effects will cease and the requirements for all gear will revert to their original, pre-potion values.”

Listed below are the full patch notes, but keep your attention on the Witcher 3 forums for the release date.
With this much work being put into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it will make for an impressive Linux build.

1.07 patch released for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

1.07 patch released for the witcher3 the wild hunt

#CDProjektRed’s huge 1.07 patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has rolled out today, the developer confirmed by #fixing a massive list of #bugs and other issues, giving players an alternative movement style for Geralt (just go to the GameplayMovement Response submenu).

The developer released the complete list of patch fixes in the Changelog and they are indeed extensive. While the update is 7.3GB in size it does contain new storage locations and better organization options for books.

The latest patch for the open-world adventure game is already going out to all versions of the game. Community lead Marcin Momot tweeted earlier, that the patch will go out for all versions of the game within 24 hours.

If this is any sign of what is to come from CD Projekt Red, the development team are putting some serious effort into the AAA title. Linux Game News has not heard any further details about the Linux release, as the team are still keeping quiet about the port.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt patch 1.07 coming soon with some key changes

witcher3_en_patch_107_coming_soon_with_important_changes

CD Projekt Red is finishing the next #game patch, 1.07, which is “coming soon to all #platforms”, according to the official post on the forum said. This patch has dominated the team’s focus, however, so there will not be any new, free Witcher 3 DLC this week. Normal service resumes next week.

Patch 1.07  features a very large update introducing some key changes and a collection of tweaks particularly to inventory management. Along with a player stash on its way.

Patch notes:

  • A new, alternative (optional) movement response mode for Geralt.
  • A player stash for storing items, available in various locations throughout the game. Stash locations are marked on the player’s map.
  • Crafting and alchemy components no longer add to the overall inventory weight.
  • Books are now placed in a dedicated tab in the Inventory and books that have already been read are properly grayed out.
  • Multiple sorting options are now available in the Inventory.
  • Alchemy formulas and crafting diagrams can be “pinned”, meaning all components and ingredients required to make them will be conveniently marked in the Shop panel.
  • Dozens of fixes for quest related issues, both major and minor.
  • A few performance enhancements, including the optimization of FX, scenes and general gameplay.
  • Various improvements to horse behavior.

Since CD Projekt Red has been working to finish and release this patch on time, publishing a free DLC this week will not happen, so free content will come back next week. The team has gathered so much feedback over the past couple of weeks and they wanted to implement as much of it as possible. The full change list for the patch 1.07 will be coming later this week.

Obviously this says nothing about a Linux release, however, with Steam Machines looking to debut in the fall, we expect CD Projekt Red is working to polish the title before releasing further platform support. Which is quite common for many game titles now, either developers release on Early Access with a Windows PC version or once stable enough, release a native build. And based on the reaction for the Linux release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, this makes sense.
