Foxhole war strategy could see a Linux port

foxhole war strategy could see a linux port in windows games steam

Since we are always keen to see new games make a debut on Linux, Mac and Windows. So titles like Foxhole the massively multiplayer game, could see a native port. Since the games developed in Unreal Engine 4. Which for most, should mean an automatic port, right?
Well that’s not the case, since Foxhole just released on Early Access via Steam. Which only has Windows support.
Yet, here’s what developer Clapfoot had to say:

“We are using the Unreal Engine 4 yes. We don’t have any near term plans to support Linux or Vulcan. But this is something that might be on the table later on in Early Access.”

The “might be” is more apt to, if we see enough demand. Since this is an Early Access game, so keeping support to one platform is easier. Then porting as demand increases, while Foxhole gains success in the community. Yeah yeah.. you get the idea.

So gameplay has you the player working with hundreds of players. All while trying to shape the outcome of a large scale war. Therefore, players ARE the content in this sandbox war game. Every individual soldier is a player that contributes to the war effort. Using logistics, base building, reconnaissance, combat, and more. Sort of like Day of Infamy but from a top-down perspective.

Foxhole Early Access Trailer:

Foxhole Features

  • Sandbox warfare, where players determine the narrative of a long term war.
  • Players drive every element of war, from weapon manufacturing and base building to strategy and combat.
  • Execute long term strategies that take days of planning, changing the tide of the war.
  • Top-down, tactical combat where skills and strategy matter more than stats or XP points.
  • Conquer and relinquish territories in a back and forth, high stakes conflict.
  • Capture and setup supply lines to keep your front line well equipped.
  • Play as a persistent character throughout the war, gaining notoriety and influence among your faction.
  • Ammunition, resources, and information are limited, requiring players to work together to win.
  • Dynamic battle conditions: Use the time of day and terrain features to gain an advantage.
  • Join an alternate timeline universe where the great wars never ended and the world has been in conflict for hundreds of years.

Foxhole is currently only available via Steam Early Access for Windows. Yet with enough support, a native Linux port can happen.

Twilight Struggle strategy simulation boardgame now available Linux, Mac and Windows PC

Twilight Struggle, a “#challenging strategy #game of medium complexity” chronicling the entire Cold War, now available on #Steam for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign.

Originally release as a board game by Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews back in 2005, Twilight Struggle is a PvP game that pits the United States and the former Soviet Union. Starting after World War II until the late 1980’s through a series of political and economic events taking place within a card-based game engine.

Twilight Struggle now coming to Linux Mac and Windows PC

War can get complicated – so can keeping track of all the involved pieces of a tabletop counterpart, such as the multi-decade #warzone featured in Twilight Struggle. Convenience awaits though, as GMT Games has roared past its $50,000 base funding goal on #Kickstarter. With the $151,496 collected at the time of this writing, Twilight Struggle will now reach PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, Android, iOS and Windows tablets.

Twilight Struggle follows conflicts between the Soviet Union and the United States, letting two players attempt to spread the influence of either side throughout the world. Events from history come into play through Twilight Struggle‘s deck of cards, with each player attempting to earn points while also doing their best to keep a nuclear war from breaking out.

A “What If?” expansion is also in development, which pitches alternate-dimension scenarios of previous historical events – Twilight Struggle‘s Kickstarter page offers an example of Western forces reaching Berlin first, or Churchill’s Tories being re-elected in 1945. This extra helping of content is available for backers that pledge $15 or more with Kickstarter-exclusive artwork, but it will also be offered after the game’s launch if you’d rather hold your money until the game is finished.

Twilight Struggle‘s Kickstarter page estimates the digital adaptation’s completion around February 2015, but it’s fair to consider the date was likely considered before the team crossed the stretch goals for console versions. 26 days remain in Twilight Struggle‘s Kickstarter campaign, with a $175,000 stretch goal left to fund an optional Space Race Track expansion, which an update explains will involve “changing the stakes in the race to the Moon and giving players a new way to mastermind great plays.”
